What a surprise, the offroad track is for the Cayenne.

I dunno, I would have agreed with the bigbuzuki, until I saw these videos ... I don't think my Cayenne would have made it!

And gotta love this one, they are winching a Cayene out of a stream, and then a 911 drives through the water as if it was not even there!

Amazing OFF ROAD porsche 911- Ocotillo Wells - New Years 2012 - YouTube

Awesome! The driver's response to clearing the water is HILARIOUS!

Both of these videos are fantastic.

The utility of the 911 is so under rated by the masses.

I think that's a Benz they're winching, BTW. Cayennes are too mighty and dominant to get stuck there.

Definitely an ML that is stuck in the water. But there is a cayenne maybe a transyberria out of the water on other side.

Back to the OP...it has nothing to do with off road; it's the diehard Porsche types who can't get over the fact that Cayenne is based on a VW Touareg platform and thus has sullied the purity of the marque. They never considered the 914/916 a Porsche either.

wow that 911 is baddass though..

But honestly all these silly semantics about whether a car is a Porsche is a dumb train of thought. Did Porsche engineers spend considerable effort and time on the car? It's a damn Porsche. Who GAF if its a shared platform that is just business and logistics. Drive an E500 and a 500E.. even the mercedes done by Porsche is way better! The Macan can't be a Porsche either by this "logic".

I agree. Hell you had (and still do, though to a lesser degree) the old air cooled people decrying the 996 as not being a real Porsche because of the water cooling. You hear the same thing about the 991 and it's electric steering.

I would be suspect of anyone that has a clue about what really makes a Porsche a Porsche driving the <insert non-real-Porsche here> and still being able to claim it doesn't have that essence in it's bones. The Cayenne may not fit the expected image of a Porsche, but when you get down to flogging it around a track there is no doubt the shield is warranted.

Well it is about time us P!g owners have someone to look down on

Agreed. Consider that Corvette fanatics decried the Cadillac XLR. Same car underneath, just trimmed out for a different breed of buyer. Cayenne/Touareg/Q7 - identical concept.

If you look carefully at the first few seconds, the Cayenne Transsyberia is being pulled out with a rope!

Porsche originally designed and engineered the chassis/platform for the Cayenne.
Audi and VW then based their vehicles on that platform.
