Default Performance chip for the 3.2 V-6?

Hello:

I own a 2005 Cayenne base. I use the tiptronic for most of my driving and I turn the PSM off. This maximizes the engine's performance, of course but even at that, I am wondering if any of you have found power boosts with the performance ECU chips out there on this car. The car has 91k and has performed flawlessly. I have followed the maintenance schedule religiously. I just would like a little bit more punch as I am moving through the gears...

Thanks,
Bob

I am interested in performance mods for the V6 also. I have read about the basic stuff like the secondary CAT bypass what else is out there? Someone has had to tested this stuff.

Its a 5000 lb vehicle being propelled by 6 cylinders.... A chip + exhaust/intake mods may get you 10-15hp... but its not going to be cheap nor will it revolutionize the experience. Really a chip will give the most gains when the engine has a turbo or super charger and you can play with boost.

Yeah I know.. Porsche got volume sales greedy at the expense of their brand by succumbing to such a power to weight ratio as the sixer.

Why does everybody nowadays think that the "non outrageously fast Porsche" was the brainchild of the Cayenne, and is demeaning to the marque? Selective memory?

This is not at all out of character for Porsche, lets look at some history:

1973 Porsche 914
1.7l flat 4
0-60 12.4s

1970 Porsche 911
2.4l 125hp
0-60 9.5s

1976 Porsche 924
2.0l I4 engine. Shared with Audi 100 and Volkswagen Van.
95hp
0-60: 11.6s

1982 Porsche 928
4.5l v8
219hp
0-60 8s

1988 Porsche 944
2.7l 162hp
0-60: 8.5s

While at the same time in the 80's you could also buy:
911T 4.9s, 924GT 5.4s, 944T S 5.4s, 928GT 5.8s.

It can be argued that these were "entry-level" Malaise era Porsche's succumbing to the poor, but this did not start with the Cayenne. Many of these were highly coveted, and have gone down at least as beautifully balanced and handling drivers cars. Porsche has always been about offering a spectrum of performance vs price. Many of these could be taken on the drag strip by a big American family car (of the same model year) with an oversized V8, at a fraction of the price. These boats however would not have the top speed, refinement, handling, or pure driving pleasure that a "slow" Porsche could give you.

Not much has actually changed with the "entry-level" V6 Cayenne, which could also take on all these Porsche classic sports-cars on the drag strip, and maybe even the track!

Didn't mean to incense.. But my mom's 2005 outback has a better power to weight ratio than my cayenne s. If something weighs 2.5 tons it needs a big engine. I really don't consider the 6 adequate personally. But that's just me and I have a lead foot. I'm sure the 6 still handles just as nice so maybe that's enough for some. It really is a very subjective thing.

To feel a difference in power you realistically need a minimum 10-15% increase. A chip just can't deliver that on any normally apsirated V6. And given the lack of torque relative to the weight of the Cayenne, it would be a pure waste of money to pursue performance gains.

Hey Bob,

I just got a performance chip for mine from a company called powertune. I was not expecting much when I bought it and it's just ok, no crazy increase in HP but it does give it more pep. If you want a little more kick then I'd recommend it but don't expect to gain a ton of hp. The company also put together reviews on their site from customers. Some just talking about it and some doing 0-60 tests with and without it. power tune performance chip

Chipping a V6 is too pricey, for the marginal gains. Do secondary cat bypass and replace "suitcase" muffler, for noticeable throttle response and possible, 27hp gains.

Lol...an $80 item that's going to interface with your Cayenne's ECU and magically "tune" it over several hundred miles? Did you also get wicked HP gains from the stickers and giant spoiler on your Honduh Civic?

+1 And let us not forget the 356 which is now highly collectible and valuable. Not fast by any means. I think you pretty much served it up.
