Default Buying advice for 2004 Turbo

I'm very interested in purchasing a 2004 TT. I have some concerns about price and future maintenance issues.

The car has 150K miles, one owner, complete maintenance history. Although the coolant pipes have been replaced with aluminum, there is a distinct coolant smell sometimes. Would this be a sign that the replacement was faulty?

What would be a fair price for this vehicle in your opinion? Asking price is $21,500.

I think that price sounds high for a car with that mileage. I would expect to pay less than $20K, maybe closer to $16K. And I'd only pay that if the PPI checks out and the car is in great condition for the mileage. Cayennes can be very reliable cars, but they aren't the cheapest cars to keep on the road.

Coolant smell can be attributed to anything from a faulty coolant reservoir cap, split coolant expansion tank, leaky water pump. Minor rectification.

Thats way too much loot for that car, I agree 16 would be more like it. I paid 25k at a stealership for one with 69k on it that looks flawless, unfortunately mechanically it was great for a few weeks. It has already needed a few hundred in parts and has been in the shop a few times in 4 months of ownership.

Better set back a few grand for repair and maintenance.

I'm checking the maintenance logs tomorrow. My understanding is that they replaced the pipes before they burst, but I am skeptical as a matter of principal. I think it's standard procedure, or at least "best practice" to replace the starter "while you're in there".

Is changing the transmission fluid a recommended maintenance item? I was told by my mechanic that it's a good idea even though the factory doesn't schedule it.

Where are you located? U can have mine for 25k. Has a few issues but also has goodies like turbo 2 rims, fresh rubber, hawk pads, new cabin filter, gas cap, leak detection pump.
Needs a new starter at some point, it always starts just makes noise. And now a cam sensor or oil change ($200) in work.

I have a flawless flawless 04CTT with all records since mile 1. Silver and black loaded. All the goodies. Was under warranty thru 100k and has 108 now. Everything you read about has been replaced under warranty. Bought last June for 23$k.

$22,900 asking price. It has the aluminum coolant pipes already, but needs a valve body. Found a new one on ebay for $350. I will swap it out and change fluid/filter next week. I love it so far.

Nice deal, Tozo. I'm starting the search and debating between an S and a Turbo.

How did you find a valve body for $350?

Just for closure, I finally finished the deal yesterday. Bought the car for $17,500. It had all the maintenance records from new (one PO) and all the mods/updates were done. This was verified by my mechanic. So far, (24 hours) I'm happy with my purchase.
