Listen RJ... I saw your wink... but seriously, after too many hours getting activated software, back/forth to dealer for proper converters and too many false light indications.. I was just happy to get the dang thing working! After all it was a UHaul trailer with a total time used of <24 hours.....

also, the bundle of wires "as is" was because that was the third set.. two previous attempts to get "lit" were trying my patience.. had one bad set of wires.. then another had a bad connector.. finally the Uhaul guy went inside and got a brand new set off the wall and presto it worked.. we both laughed when it worked and said "don't touch anything"... so, I didn't worry about the look.. now if I had a 20' trailer with a racing 911 (pick your variant) then I might make sure it looked better at the track..

Madfox, I went to check my trailer wiring setup today and found I have the same dummy plug for a wiring socket. My questions are:
1) did you have to purchase the 7 pin socket or did Porsche provide it?
2) do you have the p/n?
3) I spent a min. or so trying to get that dummy plug off, did you have to remove that white piece to get the dummy to come off?
4) Did you really have to get a s/w update to get your trailer lights to work???

Thanks

Local P dealer recommended/installed Tekonsha Prodigy...did not work, then Tekonsha said the P3 is a sure thing...did not work.
the Brake wire is sending an intermittent voltage signal, which is pulsing the trailer brakes. when the CS brakes are off.
Use a Tekonsha Voyager.

Works fine.

I'll bet it even has a brake controller BUILT IN and even fully integrated into the vehicle's ABS.
I'm even gonig to go out on a limb and bet it doesn't have "!" Beep, Check Trailer Lights....oh wait, that's not in the Cayenne owner's manual so it can't happen....never mind.

I did check (used search feature), found about 20 threads (which is how I found this one), read through about a dozen of them that seemed they might be relevant but didn't have the info for that part. I also read through all the threads LTC linked in post #14 but didn't see the part I need, which is the electrical receptor that plugs into the hitch receiver connector. Most of the threads involve hooking up a 3rd party brake controller (Prodigy ect.), that's not what I'm looking for.

Call me crazy but I just think it would make sense that a great DIY thread such as this, with nice step-by-step procedures, and photos to boot, would be the logical place to put the part numbers. But I'm just weird about things like that.

I also believe this would make a great writeup for the new Pcarworkshop.com 's DIY section. I would be happy to try and put it together for the site but I don't want to take credit for someone else's work or presume to take liberties with it either.

I will be happy to post the part numbers in this thread once I find them.

I guess this must be the part

Touareg Hitch Socket

Edit: After doing a search on "Pollak" and not on "trailer" I found a thread where MomentumGuy posted a link to this part which is MUCH cheaper than the one for the Touareg.

Plastic Trailer Connector, Vehicle End **Don't use, wrong part**

Update:Do not get the connector above from etrailer.com, it doesn't plug into the Cayenne's wiring, it's designed to connect to bare wire.

Update #2: Used Google and searched on "Touareg pollak trailer" and it pulled up a JC Whitney listing of all things. Checked it out, nice photos of both front and back and it matches mudman's photos at the start of this thread. It is $10 plus $7 shipping. On order.

Update #3: It came in and it is the correct plug. Took less than 5 min. to install. Bottom line, get the JC Whitney (Pollak) part, I doubt you'll find it cheaper.

All you had to do was ask (PM or post).
I could have answered your questions quicker than a search.

To which question do you seek an answer?
AFAIK, the alpha/beta survivors have answered just about any towing/lighting question that could ever come up.....
