Trailer Lights for the novice with factory towing package (i.e. you're using a UHaul)
#46
So I'm almost towing. The dealer installed the Pollack part and my brake controller (Drawtite Activator III) and I have the Uhaul adapter for the LEDs on my trailer.
My trailer lead had a 7 PIN plug on it to fit a Denali (bought the 2007 trailer from a fellow PCA member). The problem is that the Uhaul adapter starts accepts a 5 PIN and converts it to a 7 PIN.
Here's my question, my trailer has red and black wires. I believe that Red is "AUX/Backup" and Black is for "12V+." My trailer is a simple open unit with brakes, lights, and an emergency battery.
I think I just need to put a 5 PIN end on to be in business and connect the White, Blue, Brown, Yellow, and Green wires. Will not hooking up the Black and Red matter?

This forum was very helpful so far. I think I'm 90% home. Please see my one question:
Will not hooking up the Black and Red matter?
PS- I'm not afraid of squirrels.

Step 1. Simply plug your 7 pin trailer connector into the corresponding mating connector on the Cayenne.
Step 2. Ignore the "!" Beep "Check Trailer Lights" warning from the dashboard.
Step 3. Verify that all trailer lights are working.
This will verify proper operation of 1D6 and/or 1D8 (probably the latter in your case since it's an 08)
If there are problems.
Step 1. Drive to your dealer, preferrably during daylight hours and not towing
Step 2. Ask them to verify the software loaded into the 1D6/1D8 factor towbar control unit. There is Euro and RoW (rest of world) versions.
Step 3. Update S/W as needed/required.
As for your red/black trailer wiring question, it is difficult to answer since you didn't specify what type of trailer, manufacturer, what pin #'s the wires in question are connected to, etc......

Then hang around for awhile, this place is more fun than....... oh, a lobotomy?

Not everyone who jumps into this forum has been around the block like the majority of us. This may be their first Porsche and they may find this forum looking for real solutions to their towing problems, since we know the dealers leave a little to be desired. For those that haven't developed the thick callouses on their skin I'm letting them know to press on, keep asking until you get an answer to your question.

Bill, certainly agree. It's just fun sometimes to watch the circus roll through town. I don't post nearly as much in here as I used to, but the factor is VERY high!
