It's Larry .... Larry who? Larry's ghost coming to haunt alpha/beta owners and a few select '05's!

Knocking like low octane fuel? Then it may be coil/plug trauma or bad fuel
Knocking like vibration... Uh-oh.. get thee to a nunnery... er, wait dealer!

Eeh, and how am I supposed to know what "knocking like low octane fuel" sounds like? :-D

Definitely no vibration, so nunnery is out of the question!

In park, front of engine, brakes off. Engine semi hot/cold. Car was "in motion" for an hour or so, then was parked outside for 40 mins, once I got in & started the engine, knocking began.

My technical expertise extends to only the parts of the car that are visible (with the hood closed), but when I have had knocking in the past a couple of consecutive tanks of Sunoco's highest octane gas has solved the problem.

It really sounds like it is all related to your exhaust. Should have gotten the Cargraphic

Pre-ignition or combustion problem. Spark plugs would be the first place I would check, coils (probably not) but worth a look anyway because of a strong history of defects. Who would be putting low octane fuel in your car?

"You too, Brutus" took off your exhaust and that's why you no longer experience knocking? :-D

I'm not into bling, so no Cargraphic for me :-P

Car is going to a dealer over the weekend anyway, so I'll mention this and see if they tell me this is nothing "important". I want for everything to go wrong & everything to be fixed before the warranty runs out. Is that too much to ask?

Boston, still waiting on your photos. Get to it!

Probably the best worded phrase I have seen here yet

99firehawk, can variocam be the reason she has the knock sound?
Maybe keeps the timing retarded with the combination of low grade fuel and cold weather?

if the vario cam was lcoked up she would have a check engine light for sure.
Being that her car is a 6 cyl i really dont have a clue. They have been totaly bullet proof, I havent even had a valve cover off one yet outside of training.
Most likely, its cold, the engine is warm somethign crawled up there and got stuck in the belt when it started
