Just an opinion from up here in the cheap seats.....remember, I'm no Larry.....

Engine mount? Hmmn, perhaps all the transmission "clunking" put a bit more stress on the mount and led to premature failure........I don't think so.

I will defer to my original comment....."Uh oh"

I know you're no Larry, but I'm no mind-reader. Can I get a bit of an interpretation of that "uh-oh"? Or you want me to do like Boston does and bombard you with PMs (no pun intended) & lunch requests? :-D

I heard another italian proverb: the squeaking wheel doesn't always get the grease. Sometimes it gets replaced.

Wouldn't it be nice if my dealership did just that & replaced my Cayenne with a brand new, problem-free one? :-D

You must be referring to the one that says "the squealing wheel gets cement shoes"....., totally different proverb, it's all in the translation

DMD-- How about "the rotting tooth gets the filling?" More your cup of tea, perhaps?

Update: "Check for knocking noise from engine area at start up - operates as designed".

Yesterday knocking came back again. Right after starting the car, while in park.

Will take it back in a month or so now that I'm somewhat able to replicate it, I think.

As long as you don't lose the top end of the engine by then.
From up here in the cheap seats, with no contact wtih the vehicle, it sounds an awful lot like lack of top end lubrication during startup.....clogged oil passage, low oil level, etc...
Then again, I'm not Larry.

Thanks, Larry or Leon or Lecter or let's just call you the bearer of bad news :-D Kidding, kidding. I always appreciate your help.

I'm going to take a chance and wait a month b/c it's useless bringing the car to anyone in NY and MD dealership was the only one that finally took care of the clunk, so I'll try to make sure that they get to the bottom of this. Wishful thinking? Maybe, but I'll try to think happy thoughts and stay positive :-D

Upd: Actually, just got off the phone with service manager. He kind of, sort of acknowledged clogged oil passage, so we'll be scheduling something in few weeks.
