Yes, Voice of the Theatre, by Altec. Pretty similar to the model 19 but made for movie theaters, until us rockers used them on stage because they were the biggest, loudest things we could find back in the early 70s.

Mike those were awesome, I do not care what anyone says. Also the Klipsch LaScala, Belle Klipsch and Klipschorn fall into this catagory. Used witha amp like something from McIntosh that has a lot of punch and a warmish sound....I just love it!

I've hear a lot of so called high end very expensive boutique speakers with music I know very well and a lot of them sounded sort of fake and not real to me. I am a drummer and am in and out of music stores everyday in my business so I hear live music all the time. I'm not saying I have "golden ears".
The room acoustics have a lot to play in the sound of speakers. I've heard good speakers sound horrible in the wrong room and I've hear average speakers sound great set up in the right room.

In the late 80's I did a lot of drumming at Westlake Studio's in LA. They have some big monitors in one of the rooms mounted up above the control room glass in the wall and they sounded awesome...best ever! A lot of popular recodings were done on these and the little cheap Yamaha NS10's. These Weatlake speakers has 2- 15"s I believe some 8's or 10's and a big horn and was built out of wood with a stave like construction. They looked like fine furniture! These were custom cab's loaded with JBL speakers and run on Hafler and Bryston amps.

I have nothing against the old Klipsch other than their size what I find strange is you refer to the McIntosch amps as a lot of punch and warmish sounding. A few maybe but for the most part I always considered the Mac equipment to be excessively dark sounding especially their SS. I guess it depends on what speakers you are driving.

McIntosh is not dark sounding at all. I bought their MC207 amp to drive my home theater system and auditioned it with many different speakers at many different shops through out the southeast and it is not dark at all. As a matter of fact the highs are very natural and the amp has a great amount of head room.

I guess I am remembering the older equipment. I owned a number of older Mac amps. I still have a 2505 and a 2105 and I had a 250 until it died. I found all these amps to be very dark sounding. We used to have a local shop called Purdue Audio I dealt with that would hold annual Mac clinics and inevitably they needed work ever year or so. Always something out of spec. It was nice even long after warranty was up Mac would fix them for free. Eventually the store closed and I haven't pulled the Mac's out since. I always loved the looks but there are other amps i personally prefer. Again many things come into play.

I agree with Cobalt here Mike the earlier SS with output transformer were slow and dark sounding , the ones without transformers were better.

Based on 2105,2300,2500 ( older SS stuff) Never heard the MC207, but i have heard the MC7150 ,MC252, MC1.2W and never felt they sounded as such...

Ohhh and many moons ago a Pr of MC3500 .........................

What no Fulton Model J's Absurdly large and never understood why they touted them for so long.

I remember listening to the Infinity IRS V's they sounded OK but when powered by a series of Krell amps with a normal listening level using something like 3000 watts they really came to life. Very detailed speaker but IIRC they were $100,000 back then which was absurd money. Still one of the better speakers I have heard but size and cost made them unrealistic.

I totally forgot about the Quad's until reading this. Wasn't a huge fan of them.

Discussing most significant the Quad ESL57 is justified , no Altec, JBL or B&W is not. Also placing Magico on that list is absurd , i guess killing the industry was not enuff, these magazine bozos are still at it ...

It has been a long time since I heard the Quads although the Infinities I recall leaving a far more lasting impression. Never heard the Magico's

It's not about sound , sound is one criteria. It's about being the most significant speaker, more precisely the 12 most significant .

How can a new comer be one of the most significant speakers of all time, how has Magico revolutionize the industry , what makes it an Icon . The Quad was the first successful ESL and i believe it is also the best selling ESL ever, an Icon.

Really ridiculous that JBL is not recognized for his early work, instead Magico..

I would take a look to see who is signing Jonathon Valin and Robert Harley pay checks....
