I'm still looking for a car (lost out on what looked like a bargain at Sonnen this morning) and I came across this - http://www.phillipsauto.com/web/used...ornia/5397041/
It's an 07 997tt with a Ruf 550hp conversion and other upgrades.
I've been searching around and it looks like the place in Dallas that did these conversions no longer deals with Ruf.
Does anyone know these cars? Are they basket cases? Can you get them serviced by any Porsche shop?

Call Hans at RAC Performance in Dallas and see if he has any info for you. You might also want to find out if it will pass California emissions testing.Originally Posted by rtc113

If you ask me that is a sick car...The mods are basic.. There is no "conversion" there. Just and ECU tune and exhaust and brakes.. I don't know why you should be concerned. RUF is top quality.. Those wheels are incredible and would set you back about 8 to 10k with tires. Let alone the cost of the brake upgrade.
If you like the speed yellow I would get the DME read, have the car inspected and bargain on the price..

The Ruf conversions are wonderful cars, factory reliable and fast. I have had zero issues with my car. I would check the car with Hans and see what was done to it. It should have documentation and a letter of authenticity from Ruf.

I'd still want to make sure any out-of-state car, whether modified or not, would pass emissions especially in California.Originally Posted by ca993twin

And you wouldn't worry about an in-state car? That's why its the sellers responsibility to provide a smog certificate at the time of the sale.Originally Posted by jhbrennan

Great car go for it.

Should be moot here anyway since the car he's interested in is already in California. I'd be concerend about buying a car from Florida for example, shipping it to California and having it fail...unless California recognizes and accepts Florida emissions certification - I just don't all the nuances of California testing or if Florida even has emissions testing.Originally Posted by ca993twin

I bought my 911 from Phillips Auto.... great place, I would do business again with them in a heart beat. That car should almost certainly be 50 state legal. They should have the smog certificate just call and ask.
Three Wheelin'
I've been tracking this car since it first showed up for sale earlier in the year. It was available at the Babelli Collection in San Diego with MORE miles than it is listed for at Phillips Auto. It is LIKELY that Babelli has mis-recorded the mileage on their website (it's still listed on there) by +1000, but I would still call them and check to make sure. I have posted all the info I have on the car on the RUF Registry here:

I checked out the car and could never get confirmation from ruf germany, at the time they had no record if that vin.
I think the conversion was done after ruf rac parted ways from the parts bin.
Just my guess.
