Default 2010 turbo manual transmission

With the 2010 997 turbo engine now based upon the Carrera integrated "dry sump" engine, where and by whom is the 6-speed manual transmission manufactured? Is it made in Germany and, if so, who is the manufacturer? Or, is it, like the Carrera manual, now a Japanese made transmission?

Let me add that I understand that the designation for the 2010 turbo manual is a G97/05.

I believe the 996/997 Carrera 6 speed manual is a Aisin transmission. Tiptronic automatic in these later car also reportrd to be manufactured by Aisin, which is a large Japanese manufacturer. Interesting, Aisin also makes the 6 speed automatic in the 3500 HD Dodge Ram truck manufactured by Chrysler a/k/a Fiat. Bottom Line: What's my bid for this component?

That's exactly my reason for getting one of the last '09s.

When they announced 997.2 TT, I scanned the specs, and not only did not regret jumping the gun on my 09 but was glad I did. I think mine is a long-term "keeper".

FWIW, Aisin is also the supplier of the Cayenne transmission.

Not sure about the turbo tip but the one mated to the NA engine in the 997 is made by Mercedes Benz. Best, most bulletproof auto in the business. The manual transmissions have traditionally been made by Aisin.

The manual transmission (like the slush box) will soon be relegated the to the dustbin of history as will the previous generation turbo motor. The latter is needlessly complex.

Yes, the M64 and its manual gearbox were needlessly complex and unworthy of helping win LeMans in 98.

The reality is that the new demographic of Porsche buyers are, for the most part, ignorant nor interested in the history of the Porsche engineering developments and their path to the road cars.
This has been well documented by PAG Marketing under Dr W (trust me, I know) and used to direct engineering to develop/change the cars/engines.

Sad really.

I guess to some extent this is true, not everyone cares about heritage and racing history, and really, Porsche (VW) is in it for the $$$. Business is business. I for one am happy to be driving a car that has the benefit of many trial and error racing applications and improvements. At the same time if you start asking me about the history of Porsche engineering and about their racing achievements.....I wouldn't have an answer for you. I also believe that it remains to be seen whether the "new" style engine/gearbox is junk as so many others seem to believe simply because it is not the same set up they are used to. It could turn out that this new architecture works perfectly and is as soild a performer as we have seen in models past. I guess soon enough we'll know.

Oh please get off the high horse. The new generation Porsche buyer isn't ignorant, instead they see's the Nissan GTR, Ferrari, Lamborghini, heck even Audi, and asks why Porsche was stuck with yester-tech. Its not 1970 anymore fellas, and the competition is better and more advanced. Porsche is just trying to keep up.
