The new engine has 40% fewer moving parts. Porsche has demonstrated in simulations that no oil starvation results even though it is not a "true dry sump" engine according to the purists. PDK is the new standard in manumatics and is heads and shoulders above the tip and previous 6 speed in execution and sophistication (albiet it is more complex).
But all of this isn't enough for people who are still intent on hanging on for dear life to their ringer washing machins from the 50's.

Do you seriously think that a trip to the supermarket requires even the level of technology of a 2010 Porsche turbo. Get real -- I didn't start this thread to discuss what you or anyone else drives to the supermarket. The thread was started so that Porsche enthusiasts (not posers parking at the supermarket while picking up lite beer or tampons for their "boss") could discuss an important part of the new turbo. If you know anything about Porsches, you would know that NA 996/997 manual transmissions have had their issues. Although you don't care (after all, you're too busy running to the supermarket for "she who must be obeyed"), some of us do care about the strength, reliability and performance characteristics of the turbo gearbox. As for you, go clip some coupons....

Is there somewhere that you guys get technical details for the new engines/transmissions? I have Googled the 9A1 engine and tried to find technical details but I keep coming up empty.
It would be nice to see technical drawings for the new manual transmissions.
EDIT: Are there any online PDF sources for service manuals that show cutaway drawings for the newer (i.e. 996/997.1/997.2) models? I have seen these for the 993 models and those technical drawings were very informative.
