http://news.windingroad.com/body-sty...s-on-08-viper/

08 Viper specs show the same drag for the convertible with top up as the coupe - Cd 0.40, with a 19.3 sqft frontal area. The C6Z06 has a Cd of 0.34 with a frontal area of 22.3sqft. The drag area of the Viper is 7.7 ft vs 7.5 ft for the Z06, which starts to give a slight edge in efficiency to the Z06 after about 150mph

word is chevrolet plans to build 2k a yr for a 4 yr run. we thought people were crazy paying 90k for a C6Z just wait. I speculate 50% will be purchased for collection, 25% for garage queen status, and 25% you will see on the road of which 10% will actually drive them for what they were built for........no vetter flames, jmo

Sure, I agree.

You could likely say the same for GT-2's

480 RWHP stock huh?

New Z's run about 440 stock and weigh a few hundred lbs less.

Don't see that the toaster is plugged in.

But look, this is NOT the Viper or Corvette board. So unless you have something but heresay and magazine articles, no real seat time in either vehicle, I don't see that there is much else to discuss about the topic. No need to argue in a vacuum, and certainly this is not the place for it.

Lonestar Motorsport Park often gets a pretty still headwind. I would guess that 10.77 was on one of the cooler recent days here with still air. I might run out there Sun and see if he wants to do a head-to-head run

uhh...i gotta dig up the magazine, but i think it was hot rod or something along those lines, and they set up a road course, and were comparing these hotrods (that all had the same chasiss) to a Viper, and all of the cars (including the one with a 55 chevy body on it) whipped the Viper. there wasnt a corvette there to be fair though, but i would point out, if you look at racing, there are FAR more corvettes road racing than Vipers. (which could also be because of the number of parts available for vettes)

Vipers look like funny clown shoes, id take a Corvette anyday of the week over a viper.

Maybe some true sport seats ala new GT2. Round gauges (maybe like old vetts of the past with the cowl). Just make everything look a little tighter. It would'nt take that much. But definatly better seats

Yeah their funny clown shoes alright..
i never said they never won anything, however you cannot deny that corvette has a much better pedigree, if you need me to dig it up i will...

and i maintain they look like stupid clown shoes (which was probably the inspiration for them considering dodge hasnt made a nice car in FOREVER, although id say i do like the new challenger) and i would much rather have a corvette

All this talk of interior and accoutrements. Just my two cents, remember that these are sports cars, built for speed......... Likening a true sports car interior to a Lexus, Mercedes or Infinity is like saying you would go to a strip club for the intellectual conversation. You drive your sports cars because they give you something that your luxury car can't - excitement and PERFORMANCE.................who cares what it looks like inside?
Putting a car through it's paces on a track you won't have time to notice the plastic dash anyway.

Not exactly. Alot of us have dedicated track cars - stripped out, no ABS, no power assisted steering, no traction or stability control, no airbags, no stereo, no power seats, no carpet, no power windows or locks. By your definition those are the only sports cars, and they cost very little by comparison. My 380hp 2600lb track car is as fast as a c5z06 on any track, yet cost me about $15k total. For the extra $50k-100k, these new "non-sportscars" better be able to discuss Dostoevsky while grinding in your lap.

That's my kind of girl

Seriously you do bring up the important point that if I guy wants a track car, it's MUCH cheaper to build a dedicated car than to adapt a street vehicle to the track. And with few exceptions, the cheap one is faster!

Dig it up, it wont be as big and long compared to the Viper. Not bad for a car that was introduced in 1994. How about the vette?
Its also funny how GM still uses leaf springs. If they swear by it so much, then why are their factory backed racing vettes sporting coilovers? Back what you swear by and show that your product works. Changing to coilovers is a totally different concept. It would be like Dodge swapping out coilovers on the Viper and putting in torsion bars..
