Jim's "RockyTop" 997.2 Build Thread
After so many months following this forum I can officially join. I never thought the day would come. I finally found a well-optioned and kept 2010 911 Turbo that will be delivered late next week. This will be my build thread to post updates, etc. Let's go!
First, I am very thankful to this community as I've learned so much. Most notable I've learned about the modifications you can do for the 997.2 generation. After a lot of research, I've narrowed my first modifications down to Europipe exhaust, Cobb Tune and DSC Controller. I feel these are the top three mods for this generation.
I've learned finding these products used is all about timing and patience. So, today has been a whirlwind for me. After scrambling to respond to a listing about a Europipe as fast as possible... I hit the trifecta! A nice gentleman on another forum responded to my frantic reply to his ad that I wanted his EP. He kindly said "how about I put a package together for my Cobb Tuner and DSC Controller as well?" I couldn't respond "yes" fast enough! All three products have less than a 1000 miles on them. I had resigned myself that I would probably have to buy all three new at retail. I ended up saving close to $1,800.
Tonight, I had the fortune to meet @snolvrthrough a PM about his H&R Springs. Chad is an asset to this community and I've learned a lot through the threads he has participated. We worked out a great deal and I'm anxious to try the H&R's. I know there are many opinions on the springs, especially H&R versus Eibach, etc. Let's leave those to the suspension threads and not here. I also had the fortune to meet @slaaw through another transaction today. Steve is another great asset and upstanding guy with tons of Porsche experience. Thank you both @snolvr and @slaaw for helping educate me and sharing in my excitement to be a new 997 Turbo owner.
Below is a photo of my soon to be 997.2. It is well optioned with 38K Miles, factory aero kit, carbon package, PDK, factory red deviated seat belts, RS Spyder wheels and retailed around $169K. After 4 months of constant searching I finally found it. When I say constant searching I'm not kidding. I scoured the internet every hour of every day with alerts for Google, etc. set to notify me. It's been exhausting, fun, disappointing (when you miss one), but well worth the time and effort. The chase is part of the game I've come to like. Now, it's time to start this build thread!
Thanks - Jim "RockyTop"

The good news keeps coming on this magical Saturday. I just received an email that the personal plate I requested "911TT" has been approved. I may need to play the lottery or go to Vegas tonight.

Great to talk to you tonight, Jim, and glad I could help out with the H&R springs. Congrats on the new acquisition, that thing is indeed well optioned, factory aero being my favorite. Can't wait to hear your impressions once the first round of mods is complete. Game changer. This community really is something special. I too have learned so much from so many great contributing RL members over the years.

I have a similar 2010 997.2 Turbo build with a Europipe, DSC, BMC intake filter, Cobb Stage 2 pro tune by Sambo and an OEM short shifter. This is the way our Turbos should have come from the factory. Enjoy!

Finally ordered my 991.2 MF steering wheel and airbag tonight after what seemed like eternity researching. I'm sure I'll still have questions before the install. Stay tuned.

Bought it as a CPO car at 25K in 2016 and now it has 96K.
Sambo is awesome, responsive and can do the tune remotely.
I wish my car had the aero kit like yours.
I don't regret any of my carefully thought out mods (twinning you!) and will be anxiously following your journey; always ready to learn more about our wonderful cars!
By the way, looking for an OEM set of 997.2 Turbo 2 wheels - have you run across any in your daily research?
Thanks!

Congratulations, RockyTop! I can so relate to your story, as it was a five-month daily search (in fall-winter 2020) to find mine as well. I was skeptical about the red seat belts in my car before I took delivery, but now I love them. I bet you feel the same. That aerokit is a great find, so congrats on that as well. Such an exciting time for you! Enjoy!

Also, I'll keep my eye out for Turbo 2 wheels and send you a link if I find any. My latest search is GT2 side skirts (possibly). I'll have to see if the Factory Aerokit has side skirts already. Hard to tell from the photos I have.

I'm thinking about this emblem to go with the red / black theme on the Turbo. Thoughts?
