Default Dealers no longer allowed to provide DME Report??

I'm helping my mom through the purchase of an '09 TT Cab. After driving my '09 TT a few times, she decided it was time to upgrade from her '04 Boxster S. I found a pretty unique 6-speed Cab in Cream with Natural Brown leather and a brown top, 41k miles. Not exactly a sporty color combo, but it should be the perfect "old lady" Turbo!

Anyway... We set up a PPI at the Porsche dealer in Pittsburgh. I told her to get a DME report. The service advisor said that Porsche no longer allows them to share DME reports with customers. This was a surprise to me. Has anyone else gotten a similar response? I'm just looking for any ammo to push back on the dealer. Thanks in advance!

Maybe call around to some other dealers/shops and ask their policy? And...Go Mom Go!

Most dealerships won't do a PPI anymore.

Really? That's interesting and surprising, as well. There are two dealerships in Pittsburgh... both said they would do a PPI. Unfortunately, one was 3 weeks out on scheduling.

I would take it to an indy. I have never been impressed with a PPI done by a dealer. All they do is read the codes and walk around the car.

Thats the same answer, 3 weeks, i got from a Dealer in Ottawa for their 111 point inspection/PPI on a 997 C2S!
I really don't think inspection is needed in this case as i am buying from original owner so i cancelled the appointment.
Instead the Dealership will certify the car to & assure it meets PCNA standards & give me a CPO 2 yr warranty. Im sure this will be 10x what a PPI would have been ($500) but what at least there is some kind of Porsche warranty.....

Agreed. Unfortunately, I could not find one in the Pittsburgh area. I could only fine general Euro auto shops, in which I never have a ton of confidence... "Jack of all trades, master of none."

I have heard a lot of dealers won't do a PPI as well. But many still will. They just don't want to be dealing with the liability if they miss something.

As far as DME reports, the dealer I bought my car from and the dealer I was servicing it at both had no issue giving me a DME report. The dealer I bought it from actually gave me a full Vehicle Analysis Log with information about every module within the car. One of the few things they did that was right throughout the transaction.

Good news... The dealer rolled and provided the DME/Rev Report. All looks good... nothing over Range 3. PPI checks out, and they are picking up the car on Friday. Appreciate all the help and comments!

Now I'm curious... anyone else have a mother (and grandmother to my kids) behind the wheel of a 997TT?

Dealers around here won't do PPI's either (although they sometimes bend the rules if you know the service rep or mechanics). But any person or shop with a durametric can easily read the over-rev info.

Also, reading the over-rev's doesn't require burning a VIN on the version with limited amounts of VIN coupling allowed. Check as many cars as you like...

My 65 yr old mother had a hoon in mine this summer - did a few launches and drove through some twisties - really enjoyed it.

Love it! My mom is also 65 and had the same response. I just didn't think she'd actually ask me to find one for her.

Happy to oblige... (I'll note that stock wheels also come with the car... these are awful.)
