No lightweight flywheels only make noise at idle NOT in gear and with the clutch pedal NOT pressed

Well, phooey. Looks like I wasted a thousand bucks on a new flywheel I don't need. My noise only happens in gear (and even then only when accelerating and under 3000RPM or so) and at idle (to a lesser extent). If I'm in gear and NOT accelerating, there's no noise.

Sounds like you have a driveline/gearbox bearing issue. Has anyone at the dealership troubleshooted the major issues with your car?

i know you’ve talked about your independent mechanic and I’m like you I love to do the work that I can and that my lack of a lift will allow however on stuff like this a really good Porsche mechanic is really good to have. I’m in California and my Indy, Koncept motor works, is a life saver. He would know for sure or tell you what he needs to do to find out. No guessing, cause guessing is no fun on a car like this!
I’m bummed you have a new flywheel you most likely don’t need, can you return it?

Not sure. Ordered from Pelican Parts, hasn't arrived yet. edit: Yup, they'll refund me. I've just gotta pay return shipping. Totally cool with that. Go-go Pelican Parts!

I think I located the source of those spots on the driveway last night... All I need now is an oil leak and I've got the trifecta.

It's coming from the passenger side near the transmission.

Coolant leak.

1) Cylinder head gasket Not likely
2) Heat exchanger coolant fitting/plastic MOST Likely
3) Other coolant fitting failure (do a search 996TT or 997TT coolant fitting failure)
4) Return coolant hose ORING failure

Don't drive your car.. Don't start your car unless you put coolant/distilled water in the Coolant reservoir >> A low coolant level CAN pop a head gasket

I'm a little surprised that these cars, with as many sensors as they have, won't tell you your coolant level. There's no warning at all aside from the piddle puddle that anything is wrong.

if it’s #2 That’s a motor out fix, I was talking to my Indy today about it and he wants around 2500 for that one...

My lift comes in next Thursday. I get paid enough on Friday to buy a cheap daily driver. Saturday I imagine I'll install the lift. So Sunday I'll look into pulling the engine myself. I figure it'll only take a day or two my first time around.

I have enough questions that I think it's worth yanking it out and inspecting it. Depending on the outcome, I'll either repair or replace.

I would recommend trying to diagnosis your engine coolant leaks prior to pulling the engine out. This engine has multiple hose fittings and two heat exchangers plus a turbocharger recirculation pump.

Mercedes - hydraulic top and the I don't know 11 or 13 cylinders that if you fix one you need to fix them all because the new fixed one will blow out the o-rings of the others. I was putting the top up once and got a shower of hydraulic fluid that looked like it was coming off a jet ski. The entire car interior and me were soaked and of course the top never made it up. $5 worth of o-rings - I think it's a $5000 job to replace them all. I sold that car for $3000 and was happy to see it go.

I wish I could handle stress like TeeJay. It's really impressive man.
