The 997 GT3/RS Cars For Sale Thread...

I threw in some honest bids on that car because I was attracted to the recent work done and the mods. Spec was very meh, though.
Also, I drove a Lotus Exige last week and can't stop thinking about it, which I think is tempering my enthusiasm for anything else right now.

we bid to high 150s, as much as we like the car don't really want to shell out 165+ for it. We do have a few other cars to drive so not in a we have to have one position.

It would be super cool but maybe the $ would be better spend on a different experience like a modded GT4. I keep going back and forth thinking “do I really need that much more HP only to spend $70k on it now and possibly dropping my RS value by $50k in 10 years and $100k In 20”. I’ve also always had full Dundon so I don’t know if it would feel ‘incremental’.

One of the reasons I’m hesitant on a 4.1 SW… my 5.0 is mint and it’s worth less with the bored over 306 even though it’s matching numbers.

Did you get the advertised gains with full Dundon power package?

The bored and stroked 4.2 in my 997.2 GT3 is night and day stronger than the stock 3.8. It feels noticeably more potent than even my manual 991.2 GT3.

I think this was strong number given mileage, poverty spec, and mods. A 13k mile car with full leather sold for similar price on Bat a few month ago so relative to that this is a high price. MSRP on this was only 119k. That’s low. Some well specced .2s are in the $150s msrp.
What I found interesting about the auction was that Cold Start video. Listening to that, I do not think it was a true cold start. Unless that car has a Carnewal or Valvetronic, the system will first start with valves open (~1 sec) which clearly that video shows it started immediately closed. The only way to have your car start that way is to leave your Carnewal -or- Valvetronic in the closed position when you last shut it off.
Merit Partners are excellent sellers w/ top reputation, but they are also enthusiasts too,... so they know,... they would not want to see any smoke on a cold start video (which is the luck of the draw on whether it happens or not), so you either take several days to take that video, and pick the one without any smoke,... or you start it quickly for a second to blow any smoke out & shut it back off .... then restart your video to capture a good clip.
They also did not start the video showing the gauges, nor did anyone grab the pipes with their hand to prove everything is cold (which again, is easy to overcome if you do a quick start to blow any smoke out & then start over).
All of this is a negligible (to the quality of the car, and the auction itself), but when I don't see a full explanative cold start video, it always makes me wonder if any other wool is being pulled over. just sayin' ...

Right now I’m more focused on getting back into carbon rotors than adding more power, figure I can sell my OEM PCCB sitting on the shelf and racing steels and buy ST that I can just reface.
Sorry for another off topic post…

Good points,... although I suspect only "few" .2 non-RS have MSRP in the $150's.

Agree with this subtle point ^^^^
I often have to remind my occasionally gullible self that no matter the reputation, a dealer ultimately views these cars as widgets and their job is to move them...bottom line. I would say the one and only exception I have encountered in my many years is Doug from Switchcars who is so transparent that it was almost unbelievable to my pessimistic side at first --but I feel he has surely in the long run been blessed by his complete honesty. And there is a lesson there for all.

This supply chain has been really hard on good guys like him, because any random person with a pulse can sell used cars right now… half of eBay is salvage titles.
I’ll prob use him next time.
