As for the 4.0, you've got a 12/21 BaT sale with 11k miles at $525k, and then 2 very recent super low mileage examples at around the 700 mark, with one not meeting reserve 2 days ago at 613k.

PCar has had several similar low mileage cars go for over 700. Even with 19k miles, if it's pristine, I'd guess still 500 or so?

For some reason, they're wildly cheaper in Europe right now. ~300Euro or so with some miles. Too bad they're not 25 years old yet.
Yeah we have our second home in Japan and I we dont have the same restrictions as the US when it comes to importing cars. If I can find another one for $350 like the one that recently sold via Collecting Cars, I will jump on it.

I really appreciate everyone's input here. I test drove a 997.1GT3 a few years ago and the steering and shifter blew my mind. I literally could not get it out of my mind. I was in a F80 M3 at the time and put it up for sale the next week. I needed backseats at the time so I found a 991.1C4S with 7MT, but the steering and shifter are still leagues away from how that 997GT3 felt.

I am finally ready to move on to a 997GT3, but the price differential and availability make the 981GT4 very appealing. My main concern is: how does the steering and shifter feel of the 997 GT3 compare to the 981GT4? Are they close? I've been eyeing Girgory's car, if it were closer I'd pop by for a look. (I'm in Chicago, so if anyone has leads on 997GT3 or 981GT4 nearby, let me know! I actually also have a high mileage laguna seca blue e46 m3 6MT that I would trade in with the 991.1C4S + cash for 997GT3 but that's probably a stretch to find anyone out there interested in that trade, haha)

Looks like this GT Silver .1 GT3 is being prepped for BAT. Here is sellers BAT page. They were asking $148k about a month ago before pulling the listing.

VIN: WP0AC29977S792770

the problem is, nothing comes close to the feel of 997 GT3...
Sell the bmw and sell the c4s, pony up for a higher miles 997.2 gt3. you won't regret it and will be happy you did

I believe Grigory is selling his gt4 in order to get into a gt3. hopefully that answers your question

Steering feel of the 981 is phenomenal. Shifter however is very, uhhh, new car feeling whereas the 997 makes you work for it.

yeap the 997 has tighter gates, feels notchier and definitely more of a challenge (and takes more physical effort to move the shifter into gear). gt4s is smoother but still quite mechanical imo.

yeah and he had a gt3 before getting into the gt4. both great cars but something about that 997. depends on what you are truly looking for in the car.

I know blowing smoke on startup is normal on a GT3 but they usually don't do it every time. I find it funny when sellers post videos and the first thing you see if a big puff of smoke. It's not a great highlight of the car. You'd think they would do a re-take. I guess if the car does it every time, then this is a better representation, but from my experience, most starts are smokeless.

After several E46 & E92 M3s, then F80, then a GT4 and now a 997.2 GT3; I’ll tell you right now there isn’t much similar about it.

The GT3 gives me the what I think are best part of all of those cars in one package.
Steering in the GT4 is fine. Not amazing but compared to the rubber band feel of the F80 it’s another league. I personally think the GT4 shifter is on par with the 7.2 GT3 but it’s a different feeling.
In the GT4 I was always missing something. Tight feel and small footprint of the 46. High revving NA motor of both. Build quality of the 92.
The GT4 is an amazing car and you will be extremely happy with it…until you come across a 997 GT3 in the wild.

After almost 40 cars the GT3 has stayed the longest by far. I never even think about the GT4 anymore.

Finally have a chance to write some replies.

First of all, thanks a lot everyone for your responses!

> Why I’m selling GT4.

I was actually very happy with it and was
not planning to sell. But then had a chance to drive to (and visit) Porsche Museum (while visiting Switzerland) and the car bug in me reignited again So I decided to get 911 again.

I started looking at pristine 997 examples initially (BTW, this Targa 4S is very nice https://www.grandprimotors.com/used/...e59bfbe429.htm ). But that is 991 money..

So I also started looking at 991s and was already thinking to buy 991.2 4 GTS (since 991.1 GTS is so hard to find in a spec I would like to). But after driving local 991.2 S, I realized that although it is nice, but it still doesn’t provide that feel as I get driving GT4.

So at that point I realized that I have to pay at least $70k-$100k more to get something as fun and raw to drive as my current GT4

997.1 GT3 would be cheaper but as someone already mentioned, I did have 997.1 GT3 that I sold last summer. It was definitely a fun car to drive but I’m a visual person so how the car looks also matters to me Especially if it is my second car with the purpose to have fun And although Arctic Silver is a nice color, it didn’t feel that exciting for me. Plus that ugly PCM (Though I like how a more simple radio version I had on 997.1 Boxster looks.) Plus 997 center console that is so easy to scratch (Except leather or exterior color -painted cases - like that Targa above or Boxster I had.)

That’s how I got to a very nice 997.2 GT3 example - https://www.meritpartners.com/featur...sche-gt3-997-2 (very nice spec: https://vinanalytics.com/car/WP0AC2A97BS783314 ). BTW, they are willing to negotiate and the person I talked to is very nice to work with (in contrast to some other dealers). So PM me if interested in what I got about that car etc.

But then I also realized that these are almost 991.2 money these days.. And that’s how I got to that hard choice

> How I use my GT4

I sometimes drive to work (I also have 2015 Panamera Turbo S for that), sometimes during weekends. Only once I went to the track with it and it was really fun - especially so good for our slow-ish / small-ish track with so many turns (for prospective buyers, I was still very careful and didn’t over rev it tires were old at that time and oil was changed since then). I didn’t take it to the track after that since it is so nice I would hate to damage it (and track insurance is also ridiculously expensive like $500 for one day, though I should probably consider annual options..).

Nothing else feels like the steering and shifter of a 997 GT3. I have a 997.1 and I will take it to the grave. Amazing cars. Nothing else compares to the drivability and connection to the road. Driving these cars will ruin your driving experience of any other car.
