The 997 GT3/RS Cars For Sale Thread...
Personally, I like as few prior owners as possible for the following general reasons, but I'd always choose many good owners over 1 crappy one, but how do you judge the many prior owners? I find it hard enough to properly judge the one I'm buying from, and I'm definitely one of those 'buy the seller' type people.
1. Less prior owners means less worry about knowledge transfer loss. I've had vehicles in the past where trying to get to the bottom of an issue/modification was made impossible by that have being done a couple of owners back. Less of a concern with a stock vehicle, but a PITA on a modified one if you ned to find out what non-standard part was used.
2. Multiple owners doesn't worry me if each period of ownership is of reasonable length, or explainable if not. Am I going to worry of there was a short period of ownership where someone's circumstances changed? No. But when I see cars with a string of owners less than a year each, I always wonder if there's something not quite right about the car that's making many owners move it on so quickly.
3. Do I take better care of a car that I'm going to own for 10+ years than one I'm going to use for a year or so and then sell? Heck yeah, I don't invest extra in the preventative maintenance that I hope will likely save me money and hassle in the long term. Am I going to change out $100 of oil after each visit to the track on a car I'll only own for a year? Probably not, just go with the standard intervals. On one I plan on owning long term? Absolutely. Plenty of people think/know that they can treat a car poorly for a year or two and it likely won't come back to haunt them before they move it on.
There's always exceptions, I've known of a person that treats their very expensive cars fastidiously even though they only own them for a year before moving on to something else because they can.

But that’s all pre-covid… there is little correlation these days it’s all over the map. Cars with accident history are going over $150…

Yup I noticed that too. I wonder if everyone is going to want to cash in now, therefore resulting in some price erosion.

Looks to have a roll bar in it and then possibly aftermarket exhaust tips meaning likely an aftermarket exhaust.
I agree with you. That car looks great.
I have to say though, I never understood the premium placed on single-owner cars. Aren't the odds greater that the car had one crappy owner than 3 or 5 crappy owners? Unless you personally know the "one owner", I don't see how ownership count translates to a car being better or worse.

It's funny how many one owner cars that I've seen are absolutely terrible. People lease them, know they're turning them in and figure nothing is their problem. Same for people that buy a car and hold it for 5+ years and they're the first owner, some may not take care of a car, wash it improperly, drive it year round in the salt (not saying that's the end of the world, but less than ideal for an optimal condition car).
In fairness, if you put two identical cars next to each other, one being a one owner, another being a ten owner with no other differences (which never happens), I'm of course going with the one owner car.
Nothing wrong with a high ownership number. I think most of us around here would flip in and out of cars yearly if we financially could or our families didn't think we were crazier than we already are.
