I was prepared to buy sight unseen but I'm glad i found one local that i could see and drive. These cars so sensitive to alignment settings, tires, etc that they all fee different. I've driven some that made me not want a GT3 and then others that made me say "i need this car". I'm sure a competent shop could have gotten any of them "right" but there's something about the initial drive when you know its setup correctly, and with no squeaks or rattles, that wins me over.

For sure. Something to keep in mind when going to take a look. Alignment is big on these cars. Proper tires and alignment and one drive is all it will take.

Would love to hear your experience of what buying these cars is like. I have a feeling it’s not as simple as just a PPI and some paint readings.
That car has been for sale for over a year now. Screwed themselves by trying to overprice it. It was available before they bought it for <$135k, but that was back when the market wasn't very strong. It appeared to be a decent car but well used, I was going to make an offer on the car directly to the owner but we couldn't work out an in-person inspection.

btw, the Mezger motor is a motorsports product and is intended to win races on a track. disregard a tracked car and you'll likely end up window shopping. as long as the car has been maintained you're getting an awesome vehicle
I don’t think it is just 997 GT cars, but all used cars are going up. I have a 4Runner and a Golf R that are worth more than they were before the lockdown. Supply/demand.
With that said, 997 GT cars are so visceral with hydraulic steering, hand brake, heavy touch points, Mezger engine, compact dimensions for modern GT cars, 997 looks, and IMO more fun at reasonable speeds in comparison to 991 GT cars. I think they are going to continue to hold value and appreciate nicely over time.

I could not have said it any better than you just did my friend. And for the record I did buy my 997.2 GT3 RS before I ever got to drive it. Not a single regret after 7 glorious years of ownership and counting!

Did anyone ever sort out why this one has rear seatbelts?
For those who actually own 997 GT3/RS, how many have actually bought blind (aka without ever driving it)? I have always thought my grail car would be the 991RS, but after driving it I didn't feel engaged on the street, which made me rethink the car (still looks amazing though!).
997 GT3/RS can't really be rented anymore, and I doubt any owner will let prospective buyers drive it either. How have actual owners dealt with this when they bought?

it was listed initially, pulled, and then relisted. When asked, they said it was no longer for sale (oddly, after it was featured here with Doorcards and Rear Belts). Wonder what kind of market for those two items not being standard and the belts not having the factory anchor as given on the 997.1 platform which was described at length on this forum.
