I don’t see the point of shelling out thousands of dollars and having an engine out service done to prevent something that may never happen. If it does happen, you do it then. Only rational exception I see is if you track your car. On a track, if the lines blow, you’re putting others in danger because people are driving at the limits of tire adhesion and running through your coolant slick can lead to an accident. For street use, that’s not a realistic scenario.
Agree 100%. Such a big job for something that may never happen. This won’t cost catastrophic engine failure. Just turn the car off and tow it to your shop. I would only do it preventively if I track the car or if I need to drop the engine for anything else. I have 33k miles on mine and zero issues.

63k km on my .1 with no pinned lines, had a fair amount of track mileage with the previous owner as well.

My shop thought it was a waste for me to do lines if not tracking often, they basically build Porsches and work on Singers, to 73 RS 2.7 RS, to anything in between, including lots of 997GT cars.

They said they could do it easily, but thought it was better to wait and knock out other issues at the same time down the road as milage accumulates. Made me feel good TBH, have not thought about it for 4 years.

If Doug had that car, I would ask to trade in 3 cars for it, but in an auction, I can't sell and buy in time. haha!

Makes me think, how many deals do not get done, because people like myself are so crunched for time between travel, work, family, that it just does not work...

Absent motor already out, I would not have done it preemptively, as I won't track this car heavily. But if you're in there, it's silly not to. Nominal additional cost, and regardless of the merit / reality of the risk, it's a highly-valued maintenance item on resale. # BringaDME. # BringaPinnedLine.

The danger is also to the car on track that lost its coolant lines. A friend of mine years ago in a 997.1 gt3 had his coolant lines fail going into turn 1 at streets of willow and in a second he swapped ends, went off track and had pretty bad damage.

I think it's a case by case scenario for for street or track since some had really bad experience when they let go and some not so much. I agree with you if you are on track, pin them because you can harm others and yourself.

that’s kinda what I was looking at. I see it as we all are going to drive these cars hard if we are looking here. If we are chasing vins and cars with passing on drivers examples with a story, I want to know it’s not gonna be an issue. If I was looking for a collector example and gonna baby it for a few hundred miles a year then I can see it not being done.

Posted about this car previously. Looks like All Things Porsche’s changed their name to the MILD Collection.

Yeah I’m assuming there is good reason he keeps changing his business name.
