To RS or not to RS, that is the question.

My top choice is a .1 GT3; really haven't given much thought of owning an RS. The 3.6 with LWFW and short shifter upgrades is raw enough. Other than the wider hips (1.25" wider), not much difference between them especially in the .1 series. Paying the extra money for the .1RS doesn't add up - especially when planning to drive it regularly.

If I did own a .1 GT3RS; I would prefer the .1 GT3 wing.

I just like the .1 series. And yes, I do own a 2010 GT3 with RS engine.

997-2 GT3 is faster than a 997-1 RS. Preuninger said that they did a lot of upgrades on the second generation cars and when you think about it, they are very, very different.

This isn't really my experience. .2 RS yes. .1RS vs .2 GT? Driver will decide. Very close in performance. Gearing is same, suspension different/better, engine real HP output is about same (see cobb dyno charts for an example).

I sold my .2 and bought a .1. The .1 is pure pleasure and is a real handful. The .2 was great, but it was more civilized. The 3.6 engine is also a more reliable engine (and not only because of the cam actuator problems), it revs faster and has just has the perfect higher pitched race car sound. I like the looks of the .1 better also, to me it is more classic Porsche a la 993 cars.

The .2 is a great car, but not for me. Most .1 folk are not selling their cars. One look at any time point for 997 GT3 cars for sale, shows how few .1 cars were for sale compared to .2 cars, despite more .1 cars being manufactured.

To each his own, but the .1 is more raw and more fun on the street for sure. On the track, the .2 is not too different in overall performance - but that is down to the more conforming dampening of the .2 on rougher surfaces. Drove the .1 and the .2 at the Hockenheim ring, and the .1 felt not only faster but much more "race car-ish" given the smooth track that is Hockenheimring.

Sweet. So the standard car could have done the same thing maybe marginally slower depending on wing setup, wind, straightaways (standard car faster in stairs trailer line due to drag)

Rs is a trim level.

Aero on .2RS is substantially greater than NB. It's actually slower (lower top speed) on a long straight.

I agree with those posters who say that their opinion changes depending on which day of the week it is.

I know we already talked about this and I agreed that RS is the way to go, but today you should just enjoy the toys that you have. There's always something better, ie. once you find that special RS then it won't be long before you're drooling after a 4.0 RS!

I'm kinda over GT3 and want a GT2, haha. But you already have a Porsche turbo and I don't...

RS is the better car, street or track or parked in the garage.
worth the money delta or not, depends on how you spend your money.

I dunno Spyrex. Not sure if its because I have a C4S (AWD), but the 993 didn't cut the mustard for me. It is just an amazing machine to look at but I am constantly comparing it to my 968's and cannot find the overall experience to be any superior to match the hype. The build quality is at a different level but the driving experience had me going 'meh'.

The GT3 talks to me, the C4S, not so much. The fact that the GT3 is such an amazing machine is whats got me thinking RS since everyone says its even better.

Maybe I might even be disappointed when I finally drive one. All the hype has me wondering just how much better can it be. To me the 997.2 GT3 is the best car I have ever driven/owned. If there is something better, I would like to experience it and see for myself.

In a perfect world, I have a .2GT3/RS, my 968 turbo S tribute and a F430. I would pinch myself when that day comes. It's like a kid who can actually fulfill his dreams someday. I love our great land.

Nah 993 doesn't speak to me either. Well a gt2 might :-). The G series and 964 though....coupes and 2wd only.

I need some seat time in a 968. I love the look. And they can be quite capable and fast. There are a couple turbo charged ones that run de with pca here and they fly.

Give one a try. There are a few nice ones out there. Make sure you try a good example because the experience can be very different between a sorted and a rough car.

It will surprise you how good that car is. It will not beat anyone off line (236hp, 225 lbs/ft) but once moving, will run, brake and handle with the best of them. Add to that a cheaper entry point and you have yourself a great car.

968's are very undervalued cars, to be honest. When you are ready let me know, would be happy to assist in any way. I know them like the back of my hand.

Too-tall EPA gearing on the 993 is what made mine less than a stellar Porsche driving experience. I suspect the even taller gearing is going to be the Achilles heel of the GT4.

993 is nice to look at but like a mega-hot woman with a weak libido. 964 RSA was much more entertaining.

Lowly non-RS GT3 massages my ego sufficiently. Evidently all the RS's around here are garage queens or track cars. The only ones I ever see out in the wild are sitting at Goldcrest Motorsports.

Quick Reply: To RS or not to RS, that is the question.
