Default And it begins.... 4.2L

As some of you know I've been kicking around how to build a 4.2L that is powerful, and bullet proof. After about 9 months of research, discussions with most all of the big shops, pulling away the curtains to the machine shops used, engine builders used, suppliers used etc... I'm finally ready and have pulled the trigger.

The goal is to demonstrate that a 4.2L with all the bells and whistles is powerful, bullet proof and not unreasonably costly.

This is a proof of concept with my own money on my own car to show what is possible including intake modifications (4.0L plenum either factory or custom Carbon Fiber piece ), cams/headwork, exhaust and tuning both for cost and performance.

Specs:
4.2L : 105.4 Mahle Pistons x 80.4 Pankl Crank
Oiling: Specially designed high volume 3 stage gerotor pump, and machine work for high speed oiling of all bearings.
Intake: 4.0L Porsche plenums, or custom CF plenums, still working the logistics
Heads: Cam profiles to take advantage of the displacement and stroke, valve job, deshroud and cc of combustion chambers, upgraded valve springs, upgraded valve guides.

The plan is to document the build on Rennlist, document the break-in process, document the tuning and dyno's, try and demonstrate some real world performance (60-130 or 1/4mile trapspeeds), ongoing oil analysis to show any traces of wear etc... Ideally I'd love to be able to show others that building a powerful bulletproof 4.0-4.2L GT3 engine isn't a black art, doesn't require you to know "that guy" and doesn't require an exorbitant amount of cash.

To start an 08 3.6L with 8000 miles on it from a wrecked GT3 was purchased so I can continue to track my RS while the engine is being built.

Tear down begins, for cleaning and measurements

Rods are on order and will take about 4-5 weeks to arrive, The sub-assemblies are all coming apart. Will update with more pics and details as we move forward!

Anybody with comments, tips, advice, questions feel free!

Who are you trying to fool?

Looking forward to it - I approve of your piston choice.
