You're absolutely correct - it is in fact a GTR.

maybe so, but much better looking, sounding with more revs; yet still slower.

Very good thread and thanks to all who contributed. I've done a fair bit of research on just what the gen 2 cars are, Mezger engine, Getrag gearbox etc etc and decided to go forward in getting one of my own. I'll post another thread with some pics when I have time but I got a white 2011 with 2,800 miles on it (at the time) All the right options with none of the fluff.

It's my 4th 911. This one's the best yet but still very familiar. Almost like going back in time but making it all a whole lot better

From the FWIW dept: Talking to a sales manager at a well-known Porsche dealer...interest in the new GT3 is low. Only 2 deposits so far. Hmm...

1. pricing
2. pdk (good or bad, many dont like it)
3. GT3 moniker is over used, much like M power.... nothing special really.

Nope. Main options are dynamic engine mounts, front lift, sport seats and factory black wheels. Dropped by Gamroth's shop the other day. He said it's a brand new car.

Same observation in the Midwest. You want to be #1 on their list? Call any dealer and you will be.

$140K may be silly indeed. But Silly is "the new normal" for the top of the heap for any luxury brand. And that's what Porsche is to VW, part of the luxury apparatus. The sillier something is, the more the deep pockets want it.

Unless someone convinces the Fed that free money was one really big mistake (good luck with that, bankers outnumber DE Cup), it will be far too tempting for someone to spend money (that they already have) for free.
VW will price accordingly as it would insane not to...Now toss in all the other things going strong in a host of other markets... Win win.
An automatic GT3 (or GTS3 as you would call it) is a luxury item, and most of its buyers could care less of race cred in the engine build. They want the most powerful/fastest and what is perceived as being the most exclusive. VW will laugh all the way to the D-bank. Ron Dennis and Luca will too.

But seriously, think about it... An automatic GT3 going ***** out making really pornographic sounds with barely any assisstance required by the driver??? It's going to be like a FIAT that doesn't break down. That **** sells itself, free money is just icing. Those who can drop six figures without batting an eye are going to eat it up.

I saw a 991 c4s with aerokit at the dealer. Pretty close to what the GT3 will look like. It was parked next to a rs 4.0 and did not have the visual pop of the 997.2.
