That would be a 100-150mph run, of otherwise identical cars, at the local airstrip of choice.

According to John, Porsche motorsports people say there is a benefit...and a larger scoop is fitted on the top GT3s and CUPs. So, there is probably some value to it. Enough value for me to pay $250 to install one on my 4 liter...

Could Gavin's part be making a bigger difference than the $500 FVD and $250 cup part because it continues all the way down to the airbox rather than just being a larger scoop?

It would have to be the same car, same day to make any sort of real measurement.

I have a cup decklid on my car. No perceptible power gain whatsoever. The wing is cool though

The "channeling" of the air all the way down into the intake, with smooth curves, and a funneling effect problably helps to increase air velocity and efficiency into the interior rubber boot to the intake manifold, so I certainly see how that could work really well at higher speeds. This is considerably different than other scoops currently being sold.

There is a cheap silicone intake elbow that everybody in the E46 M3 community uses because of a similar effect on smoothing out, and increasing the air flow. In short, it works.

I have no doubt this piece works, but the price is nuts because it's obviously a bespoke part. However, when compared to the price of selling your .1 and buying a .2RS, it looks pretty cheap...lol.

I don't think anyone can say it works till you take a stock car with the stock scoop and do a 100-150 run. Repeat immediately with the upgraded scoop. Anything more is speculation as to the fact that it should work

I know that getting more HP out of the 3.8 is very difficult..more difficult than with the 3.6. And the numbers given from Akropovic for example on HP gains..are too high also..

If this this really does miracles..Ok..then I willing to change my mind..

I'm not saying to what degree it works, I'm just saying that it's design certainly should work better than the stock scoop. Whether it increases hp by 1hp or 20hp has yet to be seen. It's not gonna make you lose hp. All other designs simply increase the size of the scoop, but they do nothing to funnel, direct, and smooth air flow into the intake. That's honestly why this has been the only scoop I've ever even been slightly interested in.

Anytime you can smooth out, speed up, and direct more air flow into the intake, it's usually going to help. Comparing this piece to the stock piece, it would be fairly easy to deduce his scoop will work more efficiently than the stock piece. Is it worth $2000?....No, but we overpay for on almost everything for GT3's.

Bear in mind that 25 of the 4.0's 50hp gain was claimed to have come from better air management on the intake and exhaust.

There you go, get a $250K 4.0 or a $2000 air intake..

Personally I would want to see more emperical data before writing a $2k check. I'm certain it can't hurt. Not so certain if it will help...

Money is better spent buying a 4.0 like TrakCar

Both 3.8 and 4.0 RS have monster decklid scoops.

Same as my cup decklid. Like I said, I noticed no gain whatsoever after swaping. Maybe a single small scoop compresses the air better somehow...

IMO, if the gain Clarke claims is real, it is due entirely to the compressed high velocity air being directed all the way to the airbox by this new scoop.
