I love these too but I wouldn't want to own one out of warranty and they'll be starting to run out next year on the early 2012s.

20-30 minute sessions on 70-80 degree days is not an issue. This shortens a little bit when the temps go above 90 degrees.

600+hp exotics don't make the smartest track cars, but...

the only issue I had with mine was the depreciation once the 650S debuted... I bought mine brand new and carbonized a lot of parts. But, over the course of ownership I parked mine outside, drove the crap out of it and never had any issues other than scraping the brake cooling ducts on driveways. If anyone is looking around at other 140-185k vehicles, off the top of my head only a really well sorted and modded GT2 can hang with it- another exotic car stock vs stock? In bone stock form the 12C is terrifyingly fast, and the suspension is astonishing.

a GT3RS has a stronger track pedigree since we've all been testing them out for the last 7+ years but even they tend to have odd failures every once in a while- Porsche has recalled wheels, coolant hoses, RMS leaks, etc over the years but I have no reason to think that a similarly abused 12C would have any similar mechanical issues that McLaren wouldn't have recalled or fixed. It would be similar concerns with the new 991GT3 and that car's PDK, active rear steer etc- these guys don't mess around and let the liability of parts/workmanship failures jeopardize their company/ reputation etc.

^^^cheaper to maintain too

$140k is easy, I bet $100k shortly after the new "entry" level is released in a 1yr or so.

Thanks CJ for your insights here from your experience.

Before deciding on a an '08 GT2, I did make a few offers on MP4-12C's. I was ready to throw in the towel after I got massacred by my friend's MP4-12C at the local track against my 7.2 GT3. We were both very similar drivers when we both had 7.1 GT3 RS.

I think this car embodies the future of where sports cars / supercars are headed: digital (few switches change the car's composure completely), easy to drive (my wife can be as fast as me at the track), and supremely competent (beat almost anything older; best technology around). Soul, analogue, and requiring skill maybe overrated.

The value for this car is simply amazing (or the depreciation simply amazing). I am shocked I love the car's interior, build quality, and ease of use. I don't care for the car's exterior much as it is more eye catching than a 911. But beggers can't be choosers. At $150K, I was a buyer a 6-months to a year ago. Couldn't get one a few years old with < 5,000 miles.

Now seeing fugly things I don't care about catch fire (looking at your BMW i8 with your big wait lists and hype), maybe there is a place again for an MP4-12C in the garage. I don't want anything electronic, hybrid, synthetic sound, etc.

They're supposedly going to release a new version and I bet it will be a big improvement (if things like the Boss 302 and GT350 are any indication). The last GT had a truck motor and hopefully the new one would have something NA and high revving with less weight overall. This could devastate the value of the last ones...

Indeed. The new GT should be a beast, especially if it will be raced in LeMan. I would be very interested in getting one.

The Ford GT has been on the rise as of late. I need to take another look at the Anaheim Mecum Auction results because for some reason it seemed like they were selling at a premium; more so than usual.

I love the Ford GT.
Almost had one for $125k with 30k miles at a ford dealer... Figured they might drop in price with more miles... Well, they have only climbed in price ever since and i missed the boat.

The 5.4L, 4 cam 32 valve motor is not a truck motor and is actually pretty good.
It has the aluminum block where as the GT500 mustangs of the same vintage got the iron blocks.

The latest version of the engine is 5.8L in the latest GT500.

If they build a new Ford GT then the old Ford GT value will finally sink back down to normal.... That would be good for me, but not for current owners...

I seriously doubt the values of ford gt will sink, especially if the new one starts at 170-220k mark where the original should have been priced. The only things that might do "some" damage to the older one's prices would be a carbon tub (not gonna happen) and high revving, naturally aspirated 600+hp (might happen, oh please, oh please).
