I will only use this car on the street, never to track. I won't push it nearly to its limits. I do want something that is very unique (see history above), doesn't have back seats or a sunroof, and feels more like a cocoon than the standard 997's. Price is not a consideration.

So, what is the best of these choices (model and year and even options) for simply a fantastic street Porsche that won't be too unruly to drive but will really stand apart?

Thank you very much for your insight.

Michael
if price is not issue, buy baron's RS4.0 in riviera blue.
none of the cars you mentioned above holds a candle against that RS4.0.
stop searching, THAT is the car.
this is coming from someone with over 30 GT3 variants and counting.

mooty - op is not a tracker.
ruf is more appropriate choice.
see trakcar's latest pic where he has 2 bbs wheels off the ground?
that is impressive and illustrative of how this car 'should' be driven.
but, even more telling is the transponder on the roof. that just say's it all really.

it's ok.
mocha is best in RS4.0 when i drip it all over my self since no cup holder in mine. track or not, RS4.0 is it. i take it over CGT. a friend of mine who has every RS made and CGT told me, he would dump the CGT (sub 100 miles i think) before he sells any of his 4.0's.... right i am implying he has more than a few RS4.0's

i know that you know that i know that techart 991s is best choice for the op.
he hasn't yet told us what he has owned for the past 8 years sans porker.....
4.0 would be bought and sold within months in this instance imo.

RS 4.0 over Carrera GT?? Love my 4.0, but never have driven a Carrera GT. Can anyone who has driven both give a comparison? Surprised to hear that guy who has both would sell off his GT before a 4.0.

A 4.0L 15 years from now will be THE porsche to have in your garage. (espcially rivi blue with radio delete and no options)

People like driver's cars. Normally aspirated high reving metzger will be the choice of collectors. In 15 years collectors will not care about hp difference from turbo car usable torque. They want the song of GT3.
The GT2RS will still be a desireable car in 15 years, but the 4.0L will be what purists covit.

Ruf cars are always nice.....love em', but they are in a special league of their own. Not right to compare them to limited production factory Porsches.
I still feel however that in time rare factory porsches will show to be better investments then Ruf porsches in terms of demand and depreciation.

Hi mooty,

Well, thanks for the info. To say that someone would give away a 4.0 instead of C-GT..hugh..these are tough words - and hard to believe. I do not see anything that a 4.0 could do better - as much as I love it. The C.GT revs higher, is even raw, was a supercar, excellent design..more HP.

The real question for 997 versions is, which one will be more sought after in 15 years, 4.0L or 2RS. I would also put a bit more money on the 4.0L - why? because in the future more and more turbo charging will be used...nonetheless, the GT2RS is a great car. It has no flaws...even no tubo lag. The very small turbo lag from the 997 GT2 is gone with the GT2RS..

If money really doesnt matter, one should buy both
