Default GT2 it is, but the RS?

My sincere thanks to everyone who has weighed in on this. It seems that the consensus steers me toward either a GT2 or GT2RS, primarily because I plan to drive this only on the street and somewhat daily during nice weather here in the Midwest. I get the sense that the various GT3 iterations are simply too loud and stiff to be regularly enjoyed in these circumstances, even though they're wonderful cars and likely more "pure", especially on the track.

With that decision being made, can I appeal again to the experts (and oh how many there are) and delve into the differences between a 2008 or 2009 GT2 and the 2011 GT2RS?

Finally, to those who have suggested the very unique blue one for sale, it is very cool but not my color. I subscribe to the Henry Ford theory of cars, whereby black is the only option!

Thanks again,

Michael

2008 vs 2009 GT2- PCM 2.1 vs 3.0. Newer PCM is nicer. One year newer. There were 20? 2009 USA GT2s, so not a lot to choose from, many seem to be PTS colors. Relatively speaking the 2008 cars are a dime a dozen with supposedly 185 units in the US sold, with a total of 200 GT2 units that were earmarked for the USA (so a few over what was earmarked, probably to dump the last few from production). Compare that with the thousands of NA GT3/RS cars out there and you will get a better understanding of the dynamic between the choice, intended target market, and limited actual market, and why the GT2/RS is a misunderstood car.

2008/9 GT2 vs 2011 GT2RS- newer car has- bigger VTGs, a couple of Heim joints instead of bushings in the rear suspension, center locks, carbon hood, carbon panel in front of rear deck, different front lip, matte carbon lip on rear spoiler (2008-9 GT2 also has a carbon lip, but it's painted flat black), 10mm wider front tires, either carbon front fenders or steel fenders with extra clearance and plastic extensions, different rear bumper cover, red accents on interior, PCM 3.0 or deleted, and general 997.2 updates like new tail lights and head lights etc. The 2011 RS is also supposed to have much improved shock tuning. I think that's close to it, maybe a couple of other items that are different, nothing that can't be updated from the older car if you really wanted it. I heard the RS also has a thinner roof skin but I haven't confirmed that.

I've owned them both. Sounds like you're not going to push the limits of their performance. In that case I would recommend the 4.0. You can't go wrong with either.
