I may well be mistaken, but I think the reference is to the current 997tt which has a 6sp manual, and a 3.8L engine based upon the 9A1 ... ???

I wonder then why Porsche developed the PDK-derived 7sp when they already had a 6sp manual from the tt ...

then I sincerely hope that the 991 GT3 will use the turbo box!

Because it's cheaper and has a matching 7th gear to save the planet?

yep ... I had totally forgotten about the tt's manual box, seems like a more likely solution for a GT3 than the PDK-7 ... unless they need the 7th gear for emissions/fuel consumption issues...

I *might* even consider a 991GT3 with this combination!

Ok, thanks. Makes sense now; if they could just fix the steering then the car might have a chance!

if DJN can retrofit 5 lugs to the 7.2 I am sure he can figure out how to retrofit the 7.2 steering to the 991!

ain`t it simpler to install new active sway bars system into 7.2 car?

other than that i do not see what else 991 electronis got there worth noticing.

Larry, I drove the new Boxster recently (haven't had the chance to test a 991 yet ), it has the same (more or less) electromechanical steering set up to the 991. I found it to be absolutely excellent, precise, tight, and sure some filtering of bumpsteer etc, but I truly felt that it allowed all the goodness to come through to your wee finger tips.......so don't believe everything you read laddie. I expect Porsche to make (read: program) the steering in the 991 GT3/RS to be even sportier. Ma wee fingers a' crrrrossed!

However, I too am finished with "Porsche Tax".

I like the new Boxster a lot (more than the 991); for me the question of the new steering is pretty moot, since I will be keeping the last of the real GT3s!

It looks like there will be a lot of 997 GT diehards going down with the true manual transmission/Mezger ship. Women and children first!

Joking aside, I'm sure the new cars will be excellent, but there comes a time when one has to draw a line in the sand. My line is: I prefer a fast rear engined 911 with a manual transmission paired and a race bred engine that I can drive to max with very little aid when I desire, and it challenges me to do so.

+1, my sentiments exactly! I am even dreaming of obtaining a 6.2 (white/blue of course) RS in Germany ... running with scissors!

around 40-60k euros it would seem ... would make ideal ring toy! - park it with Manthey and get them to tweak it some - KW suspension etc ... maybe later K410 or similar!

i plan to retro fit a 4.0 mezger and the normal 6 speed to my 991RS.

btw, i drove a 7 speed stick 991.
let me put it this way, i have NEVER missed a shift all these year on track. i missed a lot of gears driving the 991 for 20 miles. you WILL miss shifts and you will blow the engine up. mark my words.

go drive one....

of course if you know how to drive pete with 21 speed, then you be ok.
