on a more serious note- just previously at a track day on the Ring a Manthey Porsche burnt down (total loss of the car and and smoke 1/2 mile high smoke).
According to the Manthey website the car lost oil which started to burn quickly and in a big way. The driver got out- his Nomex suit now black on the back.

I started out wearing cotton long sleeve and jeans, cheap helmet - still compliant but cheap.
Then a very experienced friend came off Conrod Straight at Bathurst at 250km/hr backed it into the safety wall and had a cabin fire.
Now I subscribe to the bike riders "All the gear all the time rule", yeah you feel a little overdressed at first (to put it politely) but careful colour selections keep the Michelin man physique under wraps. the Porsche motorsport colours are very complimentary for the young/fit guys
Take all the precautions to minimise the risks so to speak.
It gives a little peace of mind when you subscribe to "Go Hard or Go Home" or as Trakcar puts it FLATOUT
