Nomex of any kind in DE just makes you an instant winner. You're even more of a standout when some guy in a 996 laps you.

Have seen too many variations of this in the 90+ degree weather here. Take your pick of Porsche Motorsport / Ferrari Challenge / Lamborghini SuperTrofeo attire. Plump middle-age guy in said suit laps 10 seconds slower than rungroup average, returns to paddock sweating like a pig, pounds chest and tells everybody what a great run he's had. The sight of gay walrus $ex is marginally more appealing.

Race what you want in Lemons--OMP makes great entry-level suits and if you're looking for something fancier, Puma's put in a lot of thoughts into the design and usability of their product. Just leave them in the closet if your DE agenda comprises any form of social interaction.

So say you are running DE, you go off track, hit the wall and your car lights up? Would you prefer nomex or cotton? Couldn't care less what others think of how I look but I know my preference...

It's a measured balance of risks.

DE car, DE speeds, DE use pattern. Catastrophic fuel tank failures in a street car are conceivable but rare given the DOT safety standards they're subject to.

If you're really going 10/10ths at DE you're 1) better than 99% of the drivers at the track and 2) you should move up to a cup car with a fuel cell.

The nomex for DE safety argument works... if you buy asteroid insurance too...

Some people hit the track in T's and shorts and others go full cage and safety gear. Can't fault either one as each takes personal responsibility for his actions. Nothing wrong wearing nomex at a DE but please don't put it on before breakfast and show up for dinner in it. You don't want to be That Guy.

In a street car, fire risk is minimal. In a car without a full cage, get out! In a race car with a cage and wearing a Hans, exiting in a hurry is harder. That's the reason race cars have a fire suppression system and wearing Nomex is mandatory in racing.

Since you prefer to wear Nomex, I hope you wear a Hans device since the risk of a broken neck is much greater than a fire.

I've seen plenty of street cars get totaled into a wall....never a fire....saw a Lexus take down the wall just after the start finish line at Sebring....no fire. However if you are using a race car with a different tank and so far as your de car then yeah a nomex fire suit for sure.

Few years ago this guy in a 996 made up to look like a GT# use to show up in a Ferrari boxes suit, Shumacher helmet, Ferrari Puma shoes and gloves and have his picture taken by the track photographer at the start finish line....he was doing a sorts of different poses trying to look all serious. Funny as heck!
