Troll alert but i'll bite. I had a GTR. (pics to prove it ) It was fast as f*** and I liked it. But I looooove my RS Maybe I'll go back when the R36 comes out but for now, I'm so into my car. Oh and yes, the RS is much more comfortable than my 09 GTR. Doesn't make sense that it would be, but it is.

i have a friend who can have any car on the market, but he always chooses japanese cars just to 'go against the grain'.
he then mods the hell out of them to lap quicker than 2's and 3's, but i know that, secretly, he loves porsches more than anything, but tries his best to not allow that love to materialize.

I have been driving at the track for 9 months (no prior track experience) and 6 months in my GT3. I turned a 1:58.5 at Thunderhill for the day (CCW without bypass) in the GT3 on Hoosiers.
The fastest GTR was driven by a definitely good driver, my understanding from Texas who is traveling with his friend to maybe 5 track events out West, turned a 1:59 and change in his GTR with Pirelli slicks.
So, GTR faster than GT3? No, I suspect a properly driven GT3 with same relative equipment (stock, modified, etc) on a random (not purposely favoring either car)track is "faster" than a GTR. At least my driect exprience best time versus best time shows that. Maybe, maybe not but the claim that the GTR is "faster" is definitely weak flame bait.

In terms of numbers, he runs 1:58 over the top at thunderhill. The car is completely stock other than Toyo R888 tires. He's a good driver, and the car is fast, no doubt.
However, he tells me a few important and interesting thing about the car:
1) At the beginning of a session or on cool days, the car hits about 133mph down the straightaway. At the end of a session on a hot day, that top speed dips all the way down to 116mph. That's a HUGE drop from heat soak.
2) His other track car is a race prepped E36 M3. He runs 2:02 with that car. He finds that car more fun to drive at the track than the GTR.

It's inspiring to read about the passion that members have for their GT3's. I share the same but also understand the OP's perspective. After owning 996 GT3 and GT2 I tried a GT-R. I was impressed but sold since I did not believe it would last and anticipated problems though they never materialized. Picked up an 11 GT3RS and loved it, but not as much as my 6-GT3 (modded with shorter gears and better lsd). I know it's blasphemy but I'm considering a 13 GT-R. I just appreciate the abilities of the car and had a good experience previously-sorry, these are just fun toys.
it's like an apple is not a pear. one isn't better than the other. they are different.

Have Both, personally GT3>GTR.
But.....
For what you described your needs are I think you made the perfect decision!
GTR is a great daily! Good in stop and go (Auto mode), Big seats, lots of ground clearance, makes Drag racing fun - and the Wife can drive it (mine wont' drive the 3)
Down's: Driving it gets old, (Never happens in the GT3), it's HUGE, Won't scare you in a corner, Can't drift them, Nissan Service sucks, it's HUGE, and sounds like a Wookie.
This is coming from a HUGE GTR, JDM fanboy here. I followed the development of this car from day one. Drove the car in Japan before US release. First one in the US and even owend a 94' GTR for several years.
Love it but, if the house is on fire, GT3 is getting pulled out the garage first
Enjoy it!

The original post is at best naive, and just let's leave it at that.
I could not have said it any better.
?
They are trying to build one. It's called 991. And the playstation aficionados love it.
They need to work on the weight a bit, a few more buttons and 21" wheels, cause 20" is so yesterday, and it's set. The price difference comes from the Württemberg shield. No problem there.
