Yeah, Peter (1Gunner) sent me a picture of his hub today with 3 of the 5 studs broken off at the base. First thing I thought of was that he was 2 broken studs away from a center-lock-wheel-separation-like event...
It could have been much worse!!
I could have had CL... J/K!!

but the good news... Company is sending out a complete replacement set today and will deal with the supplier later, once they receive my old (1yr) set of studs.

I'll stick with the lug bolt and alingment stud Francois snap 2 last year also... Too much failiure for me ( not the same company as yours and suppose to be top quality)

Where are these broken studs being sourced from? And how long did they have them? I got mine from a boxster racing company in Cali, so far so good.

and another thread on this from June ...

https://rennlist.com/forums/racing-a...l+stud+failure

They are convenient but appears you need to be super vigilant ... I'll be keeping a sharp eye on mine ... and carry a set of screw extractors in the tool kit for what seems like the inevitable ...

One thing that occured to me is that I wasn't using anti-seize on the studs as I had been on the bolts - and the breakaway torque when removing nuts was quite high and variable. I was thinking that lack of anti-seize on the threads and ballseat may have been significantly reducing the preload in the stud which could result in cyclic stress fatigue. So, I have started using it and things seem more consistent in terms of breakaway torque - hopefully it pays off in the long term.

What is a good time at Thunderbolt with no chicane?

second session got a bunch of mid 1:30's....but feels sloppy

I think high 28 or low 29 is doable (looking at data), but have no idea

I see Michael (TDM) has a video with some traffic of a 1:33 - so lets say 1.32 (no idea of tires) - you were 1 second faster at Mosport I think than Michael

Also see a 1.26.5 from a 2004 Cup - looks to be reasonably well driven - no idea of condition of tires - no chicane.

I would think a 1.295 would be a really good number on ra-1s

I know from my boat gps speedo and the Raymarine chart plotter gps speedo on my boat and the gps speedo on my Garmin for the car vs Iphone Harry's speedo that 2 different gps units can be a tenth off at times.
+1 Accuracy without the TomTom is ****e. And forget it if you are not using the latest I-Phone- older models are just too slow if you are doing any video. TomTom is mandatory.

Fastest lap from July PCA race was 1:26:4 in a '12 Cup. Not sure if it was with or without chicance.

There are 4 possible configurations at Thunderbolt due to the two chicanes.

PCA CR times use the 2nd chicane. The same configuration applies to GrandAm DP/GT/GS/ST.

NASA NorthEast runs w/o chicanes, the TTS class record (where the 996 and early 997 GT3 runs) is a 1:28.3, while the TTU records (where the 3.8RS and 4.0RS runs) is a 1:25.9. TTS and TTU allow Hoosiers, TTU allow slicks, slicks should give 3 secs at NJMP-T, so Izzone is doing pretty good.

996 GT3 Cup with the last chicane ran 1:30 at this year's PCA CR.

95F sweating!

Mid 1:30's still best time. We got faster, track got hotter and slicker.

I just play camera man and tape the lunatics:

Smackin down some nice laps there Mr Trakcar and others! Nicely done with all the heat and all! Wish I could have made today, but couldn't make it happen this time. Maybe when you line up the next years lineup! I'm hoping you can put together a Monticello event. That would be fun! Good luck though, that's a little tough to get into.

I hope all goes well for today and tomorrow! The nice thing for you today is it looks like traffic was of no concern. That's a good thing. Other than a little heat I guess you were rather luck with the weather for the entire trip, no?
