we will most likely need to wait until 2014 to see the RS variant and 2015 for them to become tried and tested.

this means all us 997 guys have lots of time before something potentially better is released.

The 2013 991 CUP car should show us the future of street 991 GT3.

Typically, do we not see the CUP production car first before the street model?

Looks awesome! Sounds like we will see it in the fall of 2012 and in showrooms early 2013.

 

i think they will start releasing other variants quicker than usual; these days in this market, people can't wait anymore and porsche can't afford to lose add clientele to other makes.

 

I think I read that the 2013 Cup will still be 997-based - essentially same as current Cup with normal in-cycle tweaks.

 

Agreed AJ. One doesn't have to look beyond the European GT grids. Very few 911 these days. More and more fcars.

Looks like a narrowbody, so most likely a GT3. What seems to be a side intake in that last pic is actually a reflection upon closer inspection. As to the wing? This is still a GT3 with a touch of political correctness... the huge batman wing and flamethrowers can go into the 991 RS

 

porsche needs a cup car with motor to match motors in vettes and ferraris and they got nothing so far. no matter how to put it - if rules will not change they will need a 10 cylinder engine to remain competitive. i do not know but would it be totally crazy to predict if new porsche gt race car will be based from 918?

9A1 is not as loud as the Metzger, so there is no need for three mufflers.

Being that the next GT3 will be massively lighter (with manual transmission) compared to the weight reduction between generations since 1999, Porsche only needs 450Hp in the GT3 to satisfy the marketing department, and probably 465-475Hp for the RS.

They must be working hard with Michelin and Pirelli to offer a 20" r-comp tire, because they believe even the GT3 series need to roll on wheels as big or bigger than Bling-Bling Turbo and Carrera S wheels.

Porsche should stick to 19" wheels in the GT3/GT2.

The 9A1 is already running 408Hp, without the 8,500 rpm redline, no special cams, no special pistons/connecting rods. Getting 450Hp should not be a problem, the 475Hp in the GT3 RS might require a 4.0 which is not a problem either.

 

i do not understand how it all got to help porsche to remain competitive in ALMS series. as Long stated in his interview they are forced to run engines to the limit through entire race while competotors do not have to do same, so porsche gets more failures. they obviously need more power. zr1 is 600hp+, z07 is 500hp+. it sets the bar pretty much, and i do not see how 450 can be same as 500. lap times set now by vettes show pretty much the same thing.
