If Porsche sees the next GT3 as a competitor for the 458 or the R8V10, then we're in trouble
Don't understand that comment, after all, isn't Porsche in the GT business and considers it's cup cars as a profit center?

Wow, spooky.
Do I read it right and you can only select appropriate gears or is only 7 idiot proof from 4?
But maybe there is something to a money shift proof manual transmission, but not sure this is it.

i think we will see a complete separation of any GTx cars from street C2 and C2S in 991 lineup so whatever they did there above is kinda irrelevant.
just got to wait and see...

I can't believe it wasn't until the 15th post that someone stated the obvious.

I never even heard the reports that Porsche is going to build a GT3 from the Panamera platform.

Just to clarify, by long 911's you mean the increase of 1.2" in overall length or 7/10's of 1%?

Wow that is some AMAZING mechanical engineering ... I may not love the new 991 but I do respect the engineering and technology that Porsche developed for it...

The hallmark of a 911 is its timeless classic/simple design. Piling on technology - multiple sensors, active roll control, self-correcting steering, and so on - may be brilliant engineering, but, IMHO, the simplicity loss is a major detriment. The best design is a simple design.

I dont disagree, however I was not really referring to the "bling" but the design of the 7 speed manual box derived from the PDK ... do you think that the presence of a manual transmission is a major detriment?

Phil: Haven't you noticed that the 991 is a smaller 2-door Panamera with a boxer in the rear? Longer WB, PDCC, 6-sensor 'skyhook' suspension, electric steering, push-button e-brake, full roof sunroof, etc.

I think everyone here commenting negatively is the subject of resistance to change, an issue that runs wildly among organizations (rennlist is the org here) where people would rather go with the status quo than see change.

The car looks like an exact evolution off the 997.2 GT3, most likely we can expect it to be superior in many ways. If you think this proto GT3 looks ugly then you would have to think the 997.2 GT3 looks ugly cause this proto looks almost identical. Put some color in there and the production wheels and i bet this car will look great, most likely better than the 997.2 due to proportions that will be much more flattering. Long and sleek, low, wide and aggressive.
Do you guys really think Porsche engineers and designers are sitting in their office thinking how can we make this GT3 worse than the previous one?

A manual transmission should be an option in any 911. It does not make sense that the 991 manual is heavier than the PDK version.

It all goes together, I guess, with a longer WB, active roll control (although optional), active steering, button-e-brake, and more isolated 6-sensor 'skyhook' suspension. It is a major paradigm change.

I don't really recall similar reactions to the 996.2, 997.1 or .2 ... test mule or not I don't like the style of the new 991 its simply a photoshop mashup of a Cayman/Panamera/Vantage ... and dont get me started on the interior!

I don't have to be right or wrong, its simply a subjective opinion ... the new car can have a better everything ... I just dont "dig" it as I have done all the previous GT3's ... even if I did hate the headlamps on the 996.1

p.s
The only part of the mule I actually "like" is the wing!!!!
