Default Weekend at Buttonwillow

It was a perfect weekend at Buttonwillow. A great combination of people, track, and whether. Lar, Mooty, Jim and I shared paddock space. I'll be greatful forever for them letting me use their jacks. You could say that I don't own jack...

I'll be posting soon a thread in which I will put the car for sale. I'm planning to finish stripping the silver 996 gt3 I have in Florida, bring it here for the summer, and hopefully race it soon. Two strippers going at it... That should be interesting!

Here are a couple laps:

And a couple pictures (Vanhap Photography):

There's a stripper on my back (that can't be good!):

Ouch, is that track a mess. I haven't been there since '05. It's got to be seconds slower now.

What are we talking about here? The pavement? It looks patchy, but isn't bad in reality.

Looks like a couple of great laps. The weather was awesome here in bakersfield this weekend. I totally forgot about that event out there this weekend. Dang it. Sorry i missed you guys. The track does look like it is getting rougher since i was out there last year. How was it really? Its so small and cut up I swore that next time I went out there was going to be in my mini cooper. Oh well a track day is a track day, better than pulling weeds.

Surface hasn't deteriorated, it's just always been a tight, hard track to run. I use the gators a lot and take all the bump out of my shocks....

She sure can

That track is not that bumpy, except for some braking zones (before Star Mazda and the last corner), and also the entry to Phil Hill, a little scary flat out, and a big bump on the front straight... It could use a repaving! Otherwise, it flows really well and is a lot of fun, although there's no time to rest between all these turns.

I find the track to be a 50/50 split between slow and fast corners. We ran Race 1 CW. This includes the bus stop and the Star Mazda hairpin. The east side is very tight and slow. It's hard to get the thru Button Hook (T2) with any feeling of speed (at least for me!). The west side is flowing and fast. The zig-zag from Riverside, over Magic Mountain and onto the back straight is awesome! It takes some large attachments to keep your foot in it.

The Caymans were surprisingly fast here this weekend. The gent at the back of this train is Lamar and he was quick! And fun to chase.

Pretty soon the patches will just join up. Rather like i80 over the Sierras or every road and freeway in the SF Bay Area ... the potholes are judged by their own potholes: "hey, watch out when you go into that pothole, it's got a nasty pothole near the left side."

You really need to hire someone for coaching/track support that can listen to your feedback and make adjustments for you. Quit wasting your racing budget buying trucks and trailers....

Here is a vid from Gisele's point of view. ArcticGT3 is gone in a heartbeat! Damn, that guy is fast!

All I can say is it's one of the ugliest surroundings I have seen. Staying overnight at the truck stop motel, smelling the cow "sh*t" everywhere, then the landscape of Buttonwillow really doesn't do much.

Thunderhill, by comparision, is absolutely gorgeous (which in fact it is).

No value to this thread I realize, but thought I would share my friendly comments here!
