Default Toyo R888 Question

I think I am getting to the end of the life on my first set of R888.

Once you hit the wear bars how many DE days can I expect to get out of them. Looking for a general answer......I do not have a spare set of rims so these are teh only track tires I have. Do not want to get to Sebring and cord my tires the first day.

I started with them not shaved and not heat cycled.

Getting ready to follow Trakcar's lead and stock up on 2007 tires

Just know that the R888's are garbage right before they become slicks. As soon as they are slick they cord. Don't take a chance with R888. Hoosiers or Toyo's if you can still find them cheap.

The rears can also very very quickly lose lots of grip near end of life - can make for a snappy experience - even in the highspeed stuff - tires are much cheaper than body panels

^ Agree with both of the above.

Junk those tires. Your rear will be UNBELIEVABLY loose. R888s are cheaper on the buy but the grip doesn't last as long--wouldn't track them when you're already at the indicator.

+1 to indicator and dump -- not worth the risk

This set of R888 lasted 7 DE days......

I found a source for RA1 (2007 vintage) today

245/40/18 front
305/35 18 rear

shaved 2/32nd......I am thinking to go with these (and stock pile them)

If your source for RA1's has more than 1 set available, please let us know. Thanks.

Unless you plan to drive in the rain. Then they are fine rain cools them down

i got myself fronts from his pile as i got rears at the end of last season from other source.
but i am not sure if it is a best idea to stock pile those 2007 tires. as I understand RA1 tires are in new production and by the end of winter I think new stock will be available everywhere.

I was told that tires are good for 5 years

I will buy two or three sets

At what ratio do the rears wear compared to the fronts?

Thank you.

I just ordered 4 more fronts and 4 more rears. Only questions is how much are the shaved??
2/32 is too much, but OK for price.
I stay between 5/32 and unshaved (1 crappy session, one OK session.)

I bet they'll be OK for 6 years. I am now good till end of 2013 on RA1's.

I know....faster eats tires quicker

Yoda will teach Luke, just give him time

After growing up going in circles on the dirt...I am not used to these grippy tires or brakes
