There will be a special GT3 GT3RS produced. Look for the car around April/May of '011.
There was some talk of a special GT3 GT3RS over on Teamspeed gt3rs-limited-edition. earlier this year.
I have NO details at this time except that a car is coming!

I had called BS on that so it looks I’ll have to eat my words if indeed it has a 4L engine, and it’s not just a rebadged RS with a twist named America2 or something.
How on earth they are going to justify the cost of building a new 4L engine for the few last cars of the 997 platform, when 991 will be presented around same time? Chris Harris had asked Preuninger how much did Porsche paid to redesign the side indicator repeater to fit the new extended wheel arch of the RS and he replied “A few hundred thousand Euros.”
How is that thing going to be profitable? A 4 liter engine is not exactly a GT2RS type of job.
Is it a homologation thing? They are going to keep racing the GT1 engine for 2012 - 2013?
Do they have to have a road car anymore to race it? I am not familiar with the FIA rules.
What do you think?

I don't think it's going to be anything drastic such as 4.0L since the developing cost will not make sense for the limited production as 911slow have mentioned. My feeling is couple cosmetic tweaks and perhaps few carbon fiber components from GT2 RS ... and hopefully 5 lug nut wheels and adjustable rear wings

As for the possibility of a 4.0L, they're already building one:

Anybody still want to dispute whether this car is coming?

Can anyone confirm if it is the GT3 R -- a non-street special version of the GT3 Cup car -- we are talking about?
Or is it another 'street legal' version in addition to that?
Thanks,

the "special edition" RS will be street legal.

I'm guessing it will be essentially the same appearance wise to the current RS, except with more power and some features to cut weight, such as the carbon hood and fenders from the GT2 RS.
