With Porsche offering a full cage to customers it is a no brainer. Why bother going elsewhere?

Welding in a cage to a 997.1 RS is very bad on resale not to mention the heat stress to the tub is questionable.

Porsche builds the CUP car for those who require a full weld in cage.

A street RS used for pleasure and play pairs well with the full bolt in clubsport cage.

Yes, OEM full cage it is. Any lead on where I might get a set at a reasonable price?

find the rear cage used if possible and then FVD for the front section and plates.

these are rare, so paying full pop for new is not all bad as you can always resale it.

What do you guys think about RSS roll cage. It's about $3200 USD. I can easily add couple door bars and one more roof bar for more reinforcement

I have both OEM on RS 1 and RSS 903 on RS 2. The RSS is beefier and as you know no welding required....I think that it looks just as good as OEM or even better....I do not have the front section as I like to drive the car on the road on weekends.

looks good.
if you have oem door, you dont need door bar, you have door beam in the door.
otherwise, just put a low door bar so you can get in and out. it's not easy getting in and out of my stripper.

also, you should think about door and center nets ;-)
fire supression and cool suit...
just stripe the car.

Who sells the OEM front cage for a 997.1 RS? I have the rear section already.

Yes, RSS is better than OEmin alot of ways plu sit is TIG weld instead of MIG weld found on OEM bars. I also like RSS because shoulder belt bar is right behind the seat instead of all the way back on OEM setup ... which allow the belt to stretch alot more in a crash.

It is great to see this picture re-surface anytime there is a discussion about cages. This photo tells you so much about the what if. Many people have recently requested changes in side door protection design thanks to pictures like this.

Obviously aggressive side impact designs only work with gutted doors but side protection is definately something you need to think about if even considering track use. I have been impressed with what RSS and DAS Sport offer but it is almost impossible to offer side support with an interior.

Here are two links showing some full cage work with enhanced side protection.

I would get a weld in cage if I have a junk RS ... you just can't beat that!

No you can not beat a welded in cage and it is a commitment that not everyone can make. But if your car is consistently used on the track at speed it is something you should think about. Maybe you do not do it with your RS but maybe you have a track dedicated car that focuses more on safety before performance. Sure would be fun to find a junk RS though wouldn't it?

But OEM cage on any new GT3 requires welding (plates), no?
