This seems to be the cost for Black trim in the UK: -

Front air intakes in black £242.79 + vat
Wing mirrors in black £248.18 + vat
Black wheels £874.04 + vat
Black sideplates on rear wing £242.79 + vat
Decals in black (if required) £404.62 + vat
Removal of decals No cost option

So, £2012.42 before tax and £2364.59 after.

Before I turned down the allocation for an RS, I had considered gulf blue. I thought it not vibrant enough and it looked as if PTS orange trim was iffy.

Then I started thinking that the green from gen 1 might work, as long as I was able to get the black trim. I was considering green PTS with no other options except maybe sport chrono. That way most people would think I was in a Gen 1 at the track. I have an orange and black gen 1 and thought it might be cool in a bookend sort of way.

Then I read about Sharkwerk's magic. I figure that I could always have Sharkwerk's work on the Gen 1engine, and Kent Moore could work on the suspension, then I started to think that I should keep a rarer car (my 2001 RUF RGT). So I passed along the allocation to another good home.

I'm in agreement.

Gulf blue was my initial thought and then after viewing it on a few cars, it seemed far too light on the later body styles.

I'd love to say that I've narrowed my colour choices down and made my decision; however, as it stands, I still have a 'short' list...

Lime Green (74-75)
Mexico Blue
Signal Yellow

I was visiting my local Monterey Porsche sales guy (Lance Gearing) last Fall when he offered me one of his 'open' gt3's slot. I told him PTS had just been announced and we wanted to confirm it by calling his PCNA rep. While on the phone to Porsche, Lance was told that Gulf Blue would not be possible on a gt3. I wasn't interested in Gulf Blue anyway, but it was interesting that the PCNA rep told him specifically that Gulf would NOT be available. So I don't think Gulf is a choice possibility right now in the gt3, period. We know that at least one Carrera gt was painted Gulf Blue some years ago, but I have not heard of another Porsche factory painted Gulf Blue vehicle in recent years. My understanding, from some previous posts in Forums like this, is that it might violate some agreement between Porsche AG and the Gulf Oil Company, which was a factory race car sponsor years ago. But that might be just a rumor. Other factors for lack of compliance to a particular PTS request is often that the factory can't match the exact hue of an old color due to current paint technology (which is now lead free and harder to produce the brilliant older colors exactly). I personally love non-metallic blues on 911's, having myself a Crystal Blue 911E Targa with 55K original miles, original paint, original full leather interior, etc. It won first in Class and first in Division in the Preservation Group at the PCA Parade last year in Colorado. Crystal Blue was a 'special order' color in 1970 (one of 21 colors available that year). These were the period (1970 to 1973) that Porsche offered the greatest variety in colors in its history. And many were dazzling in their hues and tones (eg tangerine, chartreuse, viper and the many signals -yellow, orange, green). Crystal Blue is a non-metallic medium blue paint that is vibrant in color. It was ordered on only 14 911's or 914-6's for that year, which makes it extremely rare.

Yet, despite my love of blue in a 911, I still think that the most optically impressive gt3 colors to date has been the 'RS Orange' and 'RS Green' offered in '07/'08. Neither are 100% exactly like the colors that the factory used back in the early seventies, but close enough to take us back nostalgically to that great era. They, in my opinion, will define the gt3 RS for the ages. z356 Carmel

I'm feelin' it. The RS should have some flourish to it. Some sense of occasion.

I'd consider a GT3 is a subdued colour as a sort of understated GT but the RS? No, I'd want mine to SHOUT!

To the OP: I think Maritime would be an AWESOME choice. I find Riviera and Mexico too light. To each his own.

Thanks JAMs - it does look good.

I'm going down to the dealership tomorrow.

They confirmed my build slot (with PTS) and now have the information required to allow me to order the individual details I would like. They have also managed to locate some original '70s brochures, with colour samples, for me to look through. Furthermore, once I have narrowed my PTS choice down to 2-3, they have offered to paint up some proper samples for me to look at - imho, this is excellent service.
