Default 2010 GT3: First front spoiler "EATEN"

......It was very dark at a country railway crossing, my wife was driving (I had enjoyed several glasses rather tasty vino - hic!), her speed was less than 10mph (16kph), but the ramp angle was too large on the way up and off the tracks. There was harsh, but not a terribly nasty scrapping noise, oh well, it could have just as easily been me. Certainly a minor approach angle would have saved it. FYI: I may be able to repair it for the short term, as it is only cracked, I will have look tomorrow.

I told her not to worry, the spoiler is designed to be easily replaced and that the cost wouldn't be too terrible. I hope I am right.

Anyone know the cost and/or part number for a new front lip?

If not, I'll post the info when I ask my dealer.

Cheers (hic!)!

the first gen one (even the cup car part) was very cheap, in the 100-200 dollar range. I'd imagine this one is a bit more complex, a bit more stiff, and at least 30% more expensive...but certainly less than 500.

I checked three weeks ago, $250 is my cost. None in the US at that time.

Suncoast told me about a month ago, that it was $180. I thought that was retail, but maybe it was discounted.

Perhaps there two types of GT3 owners - those who have and those who will. Hope the damage is limited to the spoiler. We have some nasty railroad crossings around here, so definitely something to beware of.

I wonder if the new RR crossing on the way to the Glen will be in this category. They did something to the crossing from last fall to several weeks ago. The work looked kinda recent. I went over it in my motorhome and trailer and just about launched into the air! Whatever they did made it worse as far as I am concerned and hear others complain about getting lauched.

Hope all goes well with your repair. Should be just 2 bolts to change the splitter.

yeah that crossing at the glen is horrible. don't understand why they did that. At least they keep the bump sign and cones.

Default Photo of the Damage

Hi All,

Here is the best photo of the damage I could muster. Please excuse the nasty bug guts!

On my direct assessment, it looks as though the portion of the spoiler furthest out from the bumper folded underneath as it was pushed directly into the ramp off and way from the tracks. This would be the same effect if one drove straight into a steep driveway ramp significantly greater than 4 inches up over 3ft horizontal minimum.

The spoiler is not broken at the outer lip on either side (as the crack extends beyond the photo on both sides), so it is in effect still intact, but cracked back to the fitting channel in the bumper as you can see. The mounting areas in the front most portion of the front wheel wells (where there is one mounting bolt per side) is not damaged in anyway. The repair will be quick and easy once a new lip is sourced. Also, I might be able to save this one as a back up with a little TLC.

I will post official costs and part number when I get them.

Cheers!
Doug N.

Thanx for the Pic!!

This confirms my suspicion that the more rigid blade like shape of the new spoiler is not as friendly to obstacles as the flexible curtain like spoiler of the previous generation!

Now the question is whether you'd have thought, had time, or whether it would even matter if you had the front end lift option.

Front lift option is not about saving the splitter. It's about being able to take your car places you would not otherwise be able to go. Like mall parking garages and such. The lift option enhances the car's usefulness as a DD.

Really? I think the angle is less steep, but the overall rise is now taller. So you have to go slower, but it's smoother.

Why don't owners just remove spoiler and smooth bottom of attachment points. It seems to me the only time you really need spoiler is when on track.
