johnag007, if you could find the option code for the thicker wheel:

I do not have the code but I did order the thicker alcantara wheel, came built 16th September
My dealer is searching, so far without luck. Sometimes there are hidden goodies... Gotta have that wheel.

Thanks!

Default for JAMS and Others....

Can anyone can refer us to a photo of the actual CLA Option Thicker Alcantara Wheel for the 2010 gt3 and RS? Is is exactly like the standard gen.2 Alcantara Wheel but only thicker? Or does it look like the older gen.1 Alcantara wheel (three spokes) but wrapped in thicker Alcantara? Reason I ask is that the 2010 Order guide says that CLA option requires option #841 (no cost option) which is a three spoke steering wheel in leather (instead of Alcantara). Needless to say, that doesn't make sense. Unless the wording got lost in the translation from the original German. What it might mean is that if you order CLA, you will get the older "look" gen 1 three spoke steering wheel in thicker Alcantara. Why would they refer to 'three spokes' as a different wheel unless PAG considers the new gen2 steering wheel as 'not' a true three spokes? Can someone that knows for sure what CLA will really look like in a 2010 gt3 confirm this for us? z356

I can only tell you that I ordered part number 997-347-995-00, which was option code CLA last year and received the Gen. 1 style wheel (but thicker and with more alcantara covering the hub section). Sorry, I don't have a photo. It is possible that CLA now applies to the new style wheel. I can't verify that, unfortunately. I hope not. I have sent an email to a reliable source at Porsche and will post any new information.

Sorry for the late reply had to check out with my OPC. There was no code and no price, it is an option I ordered for which I was told it could only be done in November, so I do not know if I will get it or not!

Not intending to hijack this thread but I don't understand that thicker is better. My M3 had a fat steering wheel. It felt like I was holding a sausage.

Is it merely a preference? Or is it because thicker steering wheels have more feel?

Just curious.

I think you guys should try both before spending that extra cost.

After testing both "SIZE" today, I perfer the standard one. The thicker one is better for comfortable car like M.Benz etc. For Race car like GT3RS, standard one feel best to me.

With big hands, the normal steering wheel feels less grippy, I will order the thicker one for sure, the regular one bothers me a bit.

yeah I find the wheel in my .1 to be a little "thin" I had the thicker wheel in my 996 GT3 and really
liked it ... I think I would order the thicker wheel in a .2 also ...

I have the thicker wheel option in my 996 GT3 also. Compared it with a friends car and much prefer the thicker option. I feel it also lends a hand with keeping a light touch on the wheel when on the track. But thats just my preference.

I agree totally! ... if you think about it the thickness of the wheel directly effects the intensity of the grip required to "hold" it ... the narrower the wheel the
tighter you must clench your hand in order to grip it ... so a thicker wheel
requires less grip which means that you can steer for longer before your
hands get tired ...

that's my experience anyay, I really miss by thicker 996 wheel on my 997.1
which is really wimpy IMHO ... can't wait to get a thicker one!

Ordered my RS with leather thicker wheel and like it more than standard wheel in the C2S. Ordered the OEM alcantara RS wheel from Suncoast shortly after the RS arrived just to have it. I think I paid $450.00 for it. Prices sure have changed.
