Id vastly prefer the mk1 gt3 wheel.

I cant seem to find anything on the configurator though for the thicker alcatara steering wheel. I cant believe the price for it.. dam
What were your thoughts on the test drive as compared to your .1 gt3?

Do you get the yellow stripe w/ the CLA option? I would think you would for that price...
thanks

All good information. Thanks. Couple years ago I replaced the stock steering wheel on my 07 C2S Cab with the GT3 wheel that I purchased from Suncoast. It had the yellow center marker. I loved look and feel of that steering wheel.

I suggest you send your stock wheel to Dallas Custom Steering Wheel for a fattening and recover. First class workmanship and customer service. For around $400 you will have the perfect wheel. Takes less than a week.

Not sure on thicker alcantara but smooth leather is a no cost option on 997.1 and 997.2 GT3.

I was pretty surprised.

I could really feel the torque differences, the car handled slightly better and the car sounded slightly better.

I would say the car is about 5 to 15% better in handling, power, feel, sounds and other across the board ratings than than mk1. I also love the new nav system (i know i know)

My only nit picks: I HATE the new steering wheel - so cheap feeling, the up/down window switches feel super cheap and the car didnt have full leather and that made it look super cheap.

I think full leather is a must..

If it had had full leather i woulda bought it on the spot.

Thanks for the review, good to hear. I agree full leather really makes the deal. At first I skipped it, then added it after realizing how cheap the interior looked without it. I got spoiled with my last two 911s w/full leather and forgot how much I dislike the standard interior. (My first one didn't have it, as I didn't know any better.) If ordering a new one, be sure to get XDZ; it really compliments full leather.

Careful... this is not the THICKER Alcantara steering wheel. The part number for the thicker wheel is 997-347-995-00 and it was twice the price of the wheel you referenced (or was last year when I ordered one). Haven't checked lately and I know some parts actually came down in price but certainly not by 50%. There is a huge difference between these wheels.

Negative. It is just a thicker version of the Gen. 1 wheel (with more alcantara covering the hub portion). The problem with ordering in for a Gen. 2 car is that the airbag will no longer fit, as Larry Cable already pointed out. But if you are ordering a new car and hate the new wheel; it's a great box to check!
