Thanks for the insight. So, clearly, based upon timing, it was at least a two-man operation. One guy to pick the lock and do that portion of the operation, and then just a getaway driver, to move the car to the desert.
And then the final question. What was the reason someone would team up with another thief, open up a GT3, and drive it a few miles away, and then simply set fire to it? (vice taking it to a disassembly location and part it out).

car had no gas in it.
thief has previous ARSON issues.
if you're trying to steal a car, you don't really take time to grab a gatorade and fill it up at the pump. SECURITY CAMERAS! HELLO.
it was probably plan B or C to torch the car. plan A was probably to drive it the hell away to a chop shop or train yard (shipping container to russia) something like that.

 It's hilarious really!
It depends on the way you do it, theres readily availble firmware dumps for several porsche models, which all you'd have to do is purchase a used ecu, unsolder the nand chips and manually flash it via a willems programmer and ta-da you have a ecu which is basically the same engine map w/o the immobilizer.
An easier way would be if you already had a porsche to play with, and use a tool like vag + the OBD2 cables which can be purchased quite cheaply online. Flash a new firmware onto the ECU and bam. Security disabeled.
(really it's universal as all chips used in the cars across the

i dont know why this thread got so long
who cares who and why the car is burnt up.
as long as it's not my car, i dont really give a fk.
there are many ways to steal the car. and trust me, it's not all that difficult to crash a white house party so how hard could it possibly be to drive a GT3 away.
you know there are numbers of nuclear warhead in the world that just sort of DISAPPEAR into thin air. if those things can be stolen, a car is a walk in the park, gents.
so i usually leave my cars unlocked in east oakland, east palo alto (for east coasters, that's like harlem). if stolen, great, then i get to buy a new car.
would someone pls steal my latest GT3.
it's usually parked at mc arthur bart station and there is only ONE GT3 there. you can't miss it.

How funny, a guy buys a torched car and then he ask himself what to do with it. He must of gotten it really cheap to ask himself the questions after the purchase.
