We've all had cars in our past that fall into this category....I think the 7GT3 would be one of those for me...thus I am keeping at least one for the long haul

im keeping mine for the long haul. it is a good porsche and is pretty like the 933.

that being said, if they keep building stronger and lighter GT3's, then perhaps our 997's will be a thing of the past..... so it is hard to say....

I think so for a couple of reasons. One, its just a great car. Two, it will always have the cachet of the GT1 block - we will see for how long the engine makes it into the 'road cars' of which the GT3 is a part. Three, while no one can clearly see forward, it appears clear that in the immediate future (in part due to economics and in part due to politics) holds increasing regulations aimed opposite of the purpose of the GT3 variants - as primarily performance oriented 'road' cars. Fourth, again while no one can clearly see forward, based upon the reasons in 'three', it is likely that the GT3 will continue to be oriented towards the 'road' and away from the track (the later being the providence of the GT3 RS). Fifth, it may have the cachet of being the last of the true (independent - stand alone) Porsche GT3s.

I plan on keeping mine for the long haul. It will be my first Porsche, so I can't think of a better one to keep. The trouble is, I have a showroom M3 that I felt much the same about, but now will have to go.

i have had 6 p-cars with the 7th on the way, a 2010 gt3, currently cooling its heels in port of san diego. of all the p-cars so far i feel that the gt3 will turn out to be the longest relationship i will have had (to date the longest is 3 years). each one was special to me but the pure visceral feel of the gt3, coupled with the performance should hold interest long into the future.

The 07-08 GT3's are the last P cars to be produced without driver aids (PSM).
Thanks to NHTSA rulemaking.

I thought that till my back went. Now that I have the 997.2 with PDK its SO close to the GT3 the only thing I miss is the aero package and the howl. The seats are better in the C2S (ventilated) there are 3 Modes and the Sport Plus is as stiff as I remember the GT3 (997). I do wish I was rich enough to have both.
I would really Like to drive a PDK GT3.

Leif,

I agree, my intentions are to hang on to my three RS

'07#2513 Green
'07#3115 Green
'08#2191 Orange

Of all of my Porsches, I find that I'm driving these three more and more !

Just got it. I like it, but... I've had a lot of P-cars and the average ownership time is < 6 mo. We'll see. Of the P-cars I've had, the one I shouldn't have sold was the 993 C4 cab with PSS9 suspension. Interestingly, that's the P-car that the 07 GT3 reminds me the most of in terms of visceral driving experience.

Time is relative: long for me is 2 years, I had my last GT3 for 4 and it felt like a lifetime. I will skip the 997.2 and see what is next.
