I had a young Engineer who works for me over to watch the TU-Texas Tech game and he has a 06 C6 Corvette with 12,000 miles on it. Oh Geesh.
We went for a drive in his vette and the AMG.
First words that came to mind was 77 Camaro. I was embarrased for him.
Bucket O Bolts. (I call his car Bob) but man o man. I had toyed with the thought
of buying a Z06 at some point after my back gets fixed. But at this point and I
will need more samples- I cant see any way that a Z06 is a replacment even
for a few days, hours, or minutes for a GT3. I took him for a drive in the AMG afterward and he was speechless with the power and the quality. But the AMG, after driving the Corvette and I am reminded this WASNT a Z06, seemed like ... I dont know..... a .... MERCEDES!!!! If the Z06 is close to a C6 in fit and finish and quality then I really dont have anything to think about on that front. On to what ever else is on my list.
I had to make a sacrifice to sell my GT3, because my back, with the AMG, but I would have been HUGELY dissappointed and would have given up on the car world if that would have been my replacement on the GT3!!! The AMG is a very small incremental step down from the GT3. THAT corvette would have been stepping off a two story building. Extremely dissappointed to say the least.

hey man
i havent had the opportunity to drive the newer vette. The last one I drove was the 01 Z06
I thought for SURE that they would have come up in quality. But seriously I have had the chance to drive
several Ferraris, all the 911s a guy could want including some RUFs but for some reason in the
last couple years a Vette and I have not crossed paths. Now that you say that it is weird that
it hasnt happened in awhile. But if you saw where I lived you wouldnt be that surprised. I go to Euro events in SoCal but there arent many if any Vettes there and up here in this podunk town I live in
I dont get the chance to do much driving of other exciting cars. The hottest car in town is what ever is
in my garage.

the lastest Z06 is a great car for the buck...... it is very powerful and with the right tires is quite good on the track..... but yeah, the interior materials are typical chevrolet....
the standard C6 corvette, is actually not that bad considering its price tag and weight with 400hp.

The stock seats in a Z06 are terrible, especially if you have a bad back. I remember way back when I bought my 996 C4S, I took a Z06 for a spin to see if I was doing the right thing (buying the Porsche). Granted the Z06 is great for the money, but after driving it for only 30 minutes, I literally fell out of it and could not feel my legs for a day or so. I almost took myself to emergency with a pending "Cauda Equina Syndrome" (spine guys will know what that is)
.
The poor Chevy salesman spent about an hour on the phone with Recaro, Sparco, etc, and none of the aftermarket seats at the time would fit without gutting the interior of the car; at least according to them
. I had cash in hand so they desperately wanted to sell the car. So I bought the C4S...more room, easier on the back, etc., etc.......

it depends on the type of person buying the car. my dad owned a 57 vette, since getting rid of it he's wanted nothing but a new zO6, and i have no doubt that when he has that money he won't even look at anything else. me i'd look around, just not at a vette, i don't like cars that i can see every 2 miles or so, i need something different. that's why i want TVR to come back to the states.

well if the 911 was a piece O crap I would have never lusted over the car for 35 years.
But I have no desire for a Z06 after that. The 2001 Z06 was a bucket of bolts too.

the 2005 ZO6 is actually quite good.... the 2001 z06 was crappy in retrospect.
all vettes should look and have the power of the Z06 model..... but they dont which is too bad
that being said, i would never buy one mind you.....
Even when people say that a prepped z06 will take a gt3 on a track and for a lot less money...... i still wouldnt bother with one....

What blows me away though is to make a car that looks that good, and it basically comes apart on itself.
I mean if feels as though its slowly coming apart bolt by bolt and its only a year or two. It just reminds me of my 77 camaro and how fast that thing disintegrated. Talk about programed obsolescence.
The windows shook in the door, the seats felt loose. The brakes were noisy. We opened the back to see how much room and it was not solid. Even when you accelerated there a looseness and it just wasnt confidence inspiring. It wasnt a car I would just love to drive at 150mph.
I remember when in 02 my 6 year old 993 Twin turbo came to me it felt like it was brand new
fit and finish wise.
