I sold my old track car last week and im ready to buy a GT3 for next summer.
Im holding out until may in hopes prices will be a little more "gentle" on my wallet.....
My eyes are looking weekly until then however

I just looked on DuPont Registry and they have a page of GTRs from 125 to 100K
not including the 20k upgrade to the tranny you have to pay.
It seems as though from the research I did in the fine print of the Nissan warranty that they will not cover damage with the VDC (vehicle differential control) turned off. So this gets them off the hook because if you WANT to use the launch control you HAVE to turn VDC OFF. So its a catch 22 for the owner.
Turn off VDC use launch control for a drag race and your tranny goes, your not covered.
not including the 20k upgrade to the tranny you have to pay.

I bet the guy who grenaded his GTR trans was abusing it, ie., we're not getting the complete story. Even Nissan would fix under warranty their vaunted supercar if abuse didn't factor in to the equation.
I wouldn't be suprised if they looked at the data log and the GTR driver drove out of his garage using the launch control. I'm not a Nissan apologist but there's always two versions of the story.
Makes me appreciate my GT3 even more though!

The money he saves will easily cover the chiro bills. Seriously, I don't find these cars harder riding compared to my M3 on 19s. I find it actually drives comfortable enough to be a dd but any sports car can be tough on the back if you have existing back problems.

What is Porsches official stand on their PDK launch control? It really is not that uncommon for manufacturers to have some kind of warranty voiding restriction for using the launch control. I know that the BMW M3 SMG had a limit of 20 launches, I believe, for the Euro model. Lotus also voids warranty if you use the launch control on their Exige 240 model.
Launch control generally is no better than any other hard launchs (drop clutch or power braking) for the drivetrain. It may be ideal and be more smooth, but it can't be good for the car.
Anyone with a 997 GT2 read their manual on the launch control? Do they have any kind of disclaimer?

i agree, launch control OR a drop clutch launch is going to be hard on the drivetrain regardless...
BUT launching an AWD car is going to be even more so
if you launch a GT2 or GT3, in most situations i believe the TIRES will give up their grip on the road before the clutch does, not to mention other more expensive transmission components.
however with AWD, the drivetrain takes more abuse. does anyone know if the new 997 C4S with PDK have launch control? i'd be more curious about any fine print on THAT car, than on the GT2...

The Japanese car manufacturers have a history of poseur performance advertising, then ducking warranty claims. Subaru has a history of refusing warranty claims of people who autocross or rally their WRX's in SCCA, even though they push competition (and an SCCA membership) in their ads. Just go to any SCCA autoX and check the names of people who enter Subarus, names like "Barney Rubble" and "Fred Flintstone" litter the entry list, in order to avoid having their warranties voided. What didn't the people who bought these pieces of crap understand ?
Japanese Poseur car companies sell poseur cars to poseurs. " WHAT, you didn't understand you were just supposed to LOOK like you track your car,and not actually use it and the features you bought ? if you actually use the launch control, or track your car we void your warranty "
No sympathy here.
