Default A couple more questions on the subject!

RMN22AJR,
can you post pictures of the seats with the lap belts, and how they go through the seats with respect to the regular 3-point belts? Was any additional hardware necessary for the lap belts? Thanks a lot!

Yes, will post tomorrow. Bob Brooks at DWR provided the necessary hardware from Schroth - very cool install on the seats. His info is on my original post. Everything works well together - no issues.

Here you go more detailed pics.

The bag is from the Porsche Luggage Collection - it works very well to hold belts between track events. Daily use of the belts is up to you IMHO it is too cumbersome for daily use and will result in damage to car / chips etc...

The anchor points / hardware is provided by Schroth and works well with Porsche seat. You have two types Schroth provides - the larger unit goes on the door side of the seat.

The pic under the seat is a pic of the custom sub bracket C2 made, now painted black for the install of the sub belts. The upper belts are not installed to my roll bar in these pics I just draped them through the seat to show the realtionship to the entire system.

Also I am showing the 3" Schroth shoulder belt, I also purchased the 2" HANS compatible shoulder belt - ***The 2" & 3" install differently to the roll bar 2" crosses 3" does not - follow install directions accordingly*** Bob Brooks @ DWR has both in stock. The the lap and sub belts are the same

Hope this helps!!!!!!

RMN22AJR,

I appreciate, and I know I'm not the only one! I was really curious as to see whether the regular belt gets in the way. Apparently not. It looks like there is very little space between the seats and the center console, as opposed to the 996, where the regular belt anchor - is that the right term? - could stay between the seat and the console (that's the way it is on my 996).

My orange RS got on the boat today. The RS roll bar should be here this week (in time for painting). I have to make up my mind as far as the seats are concerned. Thanks so much for the pictures! Beautiful!

For you lapbelts, I am surprised that the eye bolts are on the seat and not the floor. Is it the same for both sides? you are placing a lot of faith on the seat rails, aren't you?

I had the same reaction when I saw the system designed by Schroth. The 996 race car I drove was mounted to the tub of the car so I have similar concerns. For my use this system is acceptable, and if I am involved in an incident / g-loading that pulls the seat / harness from the rails / tub I will have bigger issues to deal with unfortunately.

So in a race car I would use a different system, in the street car this is acceptable and yes the same mount, lower profile, is used on the console side of the seat.

I think it is relatively easy to put an eye bolt on the stock mounting spot for the outboard belt. I think your lap belt is long enough to reach there. Not ideal but at least you are spreading the load a bit more, albeit a bit unevenly. did you check and see if the Euro RS have their lap belts bolted to the seat or the floor?

I will discuss with Bob @ DWR he is my Schroth dealer & supplier. Porsche does not provide any pics of Euro cars with belts installed. They ship them uninstalled and leave it up to the Owner to install. LIABILITY.......

Your idea of mounting to lap belt bolts makes sense - not sure about console side though.

on the 996 lap belts and seatbelt were bolted to the seat.

I suppose if you use the factory seat rails, there are three bolts on each rail so that should be pretty strong. aftermarket seats sometimes only has two bolts and not in the best place either. On my 993, I did put a bolt thru the center tunnel. there is an access plate and my mechanic was able to put a nut behind there. It is not exposed to the elements so not as big a rust issue. with the RS, I am not sure where to go.

Thanks for the time spent documenting the project. Great write up. I think that I'm going to follow suit and do the same. Any input on fire extingusher mounting with these seats?
