Default I have a US RS May delivery slot, but $30K over MSRP....

I am a GT3 waiter, and my dealer just told me that they have a GT3RS slot for May delivery. The car is fully loaded and its MSRP should be close to $150K.

The dealer is very honest to me, its says that this is probably the only RS they will ever get and they had to sell so many cars last year to get this RS from PCNA.

They are going to make some money from it (frankly, I can't blame them), and probably will find its way to eBay to max out the profit. However, my dealer said that they will consider selling it to me for $30K over MSRP.

Honestly, I am thinking about it but can't make up my mind yet. If it were you, would you pay $30K over MSRP for a RS May delivery?

With best regards,

P.S. My dealer told me that it will sell it 'ONLY' to me, because they know I am going to keep it and not reselling it for profit. They will not be interested in selling it to anyone else, so please don't contact me if you are interested in taking my slot. Thanks for your understanding.

Just for perspective:

:01/07 -My car: ~$1k (marginal below $160 ) than MSRP,

-$-3k MSRP, alternate dealer, (Grand Rapids, MI) --$3KMSRP (Bogus Price ???) l

Cincinnti GT3 price 'I've seen (special circumstances, Cincinnati region) MSRP <$ 5K

i dont condone up charge.
BUT judging from the premium they get on GT3's, 30k over on RS seems okay (dare i say).
if you want it go for it.

...Yes, they are sure not to have a long list compiled right behind your name....they are not going to sell it to anyone else. But if you act now at 30K over, they will throw in a free manual colonoscopy via 997 tail pipe tips to see if you are holding back any more $$

I say, Nyet.

If you like it so much, just pay the extra 30K now,and get it in May.for you to be able to spend 150K, 20%more is just a small premium.
But perhaps, since you have good relation with the dealer, try to bargain a little bit,
say you give them 15 or 20K above MSRP,but you pay them something like 50K in advance to them.
Or perhaps,if you told them, you paid them 150K full today, and pick the car later on May,
they might sell it to you without mark up.
You never know before you try,and best to speak with the owner of the dealer.
Good Luck

Thanks Prosper, all good advises.

I will give it a try

With best regards,
- Alex.

P.S. It is interesting that for the GT3RS, my Porsche salesperson said to me, "I wish I can sell you a car to drive home today, but I don't have a car to sell you." While I used to hear from other car salesperson said, "How can I get you drive this car home today?", Porsche is one of the few strange car companies that don't have cars for its salespeople to sell

I wouldn't pay one cent over MSRP for the car, especially since you didn't even get to spec it to your liking. For $180K, you better get it exactly how you would want it.

The car is barley worth the 18k over the stock gt3. Go ahead and pay for those decals.

Buy the GT3 RS... It will go up in value vs the Gt3 will go down. You could also sell it in a year for 200K..... Does the GT3 have a sunroof?

I seriously doubt this car is going to appreciate at all. If you are worried about it, don't do it.

Take a GT3 at 106K MSRP
Take a GT3RS at 123K MSRP.

Which would you rather have?......a GT3 with PCCB's making MSRP $114K, or a GT3RS with steel brakes at 123K MSRP?

With the wider ***, cf wing, special colours, lfw, I think the GT3RS at 8K more would be the better value. In resale, no one is going to pay you extra just b/c you have PCCB's. I have yet to see that.

There is no doubt the GT3 is the better value. However, I'd still buy an RS if given the choice.

I mean, seriously, who comes up with this stuff? I'm willing to bet anyone $100 that used 997 GT3 RS prices are going to drop to below-sticker levels by autumn 2007. We've seen innumerable threads on this topic; history has shown that Porsche prices don't maintain artificially high figures.

The only exception is Ferrari, where demand outstrips supply by design. I think Ferrari salesmen have the easiest jobs in the world; they tell people 'no' all day long and, occasionally, engage in some salesmanship to move a used car.

Just curious, if you were to max out the options on the RS, how much would it be over MSRP? The $8k PCCBs, the Xenons, etc..it'll probably be not as much over MSRP than you'd think. What color is the car?
