Can anyone tell me what oil they are using to top up on the 997 GT3 ?
I need to top mine up and i have some Mobil 1 ow-40 SuperSyn which i used in my 997s and the manual says that i can use any approved oil .

It's fine to add a pint of 0/40 M1, it won't change the grade and you'll be draining the thing pretty soon anyway.

450 miles , thats the thing ive done the oil test in my garage which is flat 6 times and its gone from full to the middle mark and the last one was at min. Going to wait till the morning and check it again .

Good. Definitely test again. I tested it once and got a little below the middle, then tested again and got the middle -- after about 1100 miles, so it basically hadn't "used" any oil since zero miles (testing at the same location.)
I'm still a bit confused about not having a dip stick to at least look at the bloody oil for Pete's sake ...

Right. It's now 5/50 ... I guess Mobil improved their multi-grade ability.
And the owner's manual uses 13F as the dividing line between bitterly cold climates and just plane ball-freezing weather.
About the only place I'd use a zero weight oil is the supercharger in the tow vehicle. Maybe if you drive in a very cold part of the country.
By the way, Porsche dealers with modern shops have their oils in "guns" (on lines hanging from the ceiling) so they don't have a wide range of options. I image they squirt 5/50 into everything. Perhaps for a "winterize" service they'd use bottled zero weight.

ALL Porsches worldwide are factory filled with 0W-40 this includes ones shipped to the Middle East where I imagine it gets pretty warm.
The factory race cars (SuperCup, RSR's and Spyders) run 0W-40
There is a slight horsepower advantage to running the lightest weight oil you can. F1 teams run an even lighter oil although it is a propriatary blend.
I run 0w-40 in both my street and track car.

Factory fill is 0W/40 and is the European extended change interval formulation, I only use Mobil 1 0W/40 in my tracked GT3 and it never uses a drop between changes every 12,000 kms and the car now has 51,000 kms. Most of the other Mobil 1 grades are not the extended oil change formulation.
