Default PSM for all soon

Porsche will equip one hundred percent of its fleet with ESC well in advance of the proposed first phase-in year which starts September 1, 2008

What difference does it make? PSM already can't be turned of, GT3 has sunroof mandatory, TC, PSM, whatever.

Autopilot coming right after powered cupholder standard on all P cars.

We can all thank Wide King for this. And you guys didn't think the VW truck was the beginning of the end.

Makes the 993's, 964's and 911's all that much more fun to drive.

Ditto that and you can include 996 GT3/GT2in to that list as well. No PASM crap there either.

Few years ago I said I'll drive only carburetor cars (ok, my 993 will do just fine as well) when Police can stop you on the road when you speed (via satellite hooked up to your car's computer).
It was little bit tongue in cheek but in all seriousness, I think it's not too far in future when I have to do that.

ibm has already developed the technology and it's already in use in a middle eastern country.

Not according to the definition of ESC

"To limit vehicle oversteer and to limit vehicle understeer when appropriate"

So then, that makes this iteration of the GT-3 all the more valuable. I guess, sadly, I should try to get an RS now because when they add PSM to it, there surely will be a glut of PSM laden RS's in dealer inventories...

We can thank our own government for protecting us from ourselves...they're the ones mandating ESC/PSM/etc.

Porsche is just implementing it sooner than required due to their longer product cycles (just as they did with ABS, airbags, TPMS, etc.).

Huh? You can turn PSM off with the push of a button. Real drivers can deactivate it, and novices will be saved by it. Wider appeal = more demand = higher value given equal 996/997 GT3 production.

This ain't the end of the world, folks. Surely you hot shoes can modulate the brakes well enough to stay out of the ABS (and reactivating PSM), right?

Your initial question/comment of :
"what does porsche have to do w/ u.s. govt. regulations???"

Yes, PCNA is the US representative/agent for PAG....we'll skip the part about PCNA and the 50 state transfer corporations for now.

Since PAG decides to sell cars here in the US, one of the responsibilities of PCNA is to ensure that they meet all applicable US federal laws and requirements, mainly for legal/liability reasons.

So, PCNA communicates to PAG what the US government (e.g. NHTSA) requires in order for PAG to sell vehicles here in the US, PAG designs the vehicles against these requirements, PCNA arranges for documentation, certification, crash testing, etc.
(A similar situation exists in Switzerland, re: noise regulations, so the Porsche Cars of Switzerland tells PAG what they must produce in order to sell cars in Switzerland.....enter the On/Off switch for the Porsche Sport Exhaust and the very quiet Pcars of today....but that's for another time)

So, in a nutshell, THAT is "what does porsche have to do w/ u.s. govt. regulations"
